Haynes Manual Question - p.203

On p. 203 of the Haynes Manual are instructions for adjusting headlights. At the bottom of P. 203 there is this explanation:
A (top) - vertical adjustment dipped beam B(bottom) - horizontal adj, dipped beam A (top) vertical adj, main beam B (bottom) horizontal adj, dipped beam. The top picture shows 2 arrows pointing at adjusting screws but no A or B designation; the middle picture shows 2 screws identified as A & B; the bottom pic shows the 4 H 1 screws but no A or B designations. Since the H 1 has 2 bulbs, it seems the A screw adjusts both the low and high bulbs vertically. Can anyone identify which would be the A screw on the H 1? Thanks in advance!

John,

The screws are:

A up-down is at the upper right corner.
F up-down is at the upper left corner.
A left-right is at the lower left corner.
F left-right is at the lower right corner.

These should be marked in the lens raised on the outside. If not, it is possible you have an H4 lens or some other. You absolutely need an H1 lens with a H1 light assembly. The Bosch part number for the correct H1 lens (left hand drive) is 1305 614 007.

Best,
Grady

Exactly -- and they should have the arrow on the lens too. Look just above the ! inserted into this pic.

A and F stand for some German words that mean high beam and main beam or something similar.

I swear I looked this up once...

anyway, I think Abblenden is close to the A word.

We won WWII, why can't they speak English like everybody else?? It's not even a pretty language like Italian or French...
