Alternator problem....
I have an alternator that is going out. I have ordered another one and put it in the car. But it would not mount.
The alternator was too long. The shaft was too long. The original one says motorola with S E V on the back. I have a 74 911 with a 2.7....which also has the eleven blade fan.. 245mm with the 3.75 pulley. What kind of alerternator can i get as a replacement that is short enough to fit.

I used a local shop that specialized in rebuilding alternators. If you can find a shop near you, they can either rebuild your original or give you credit on a core/exchange.

As you have discovered the later alternators are too long to fit in the original housing. So you can either have the Motorola rebuilt, or you can get one of these:
http://www.**************/alternators.html Note the casting number on your fan housing and buy the alternator that matches that number for the correct length.
