Alarm System Standard -930 ?
Just purchased an '86 930. Was the security alarm system standard on this vehicle ? There is a keyway in the door, but neither key that I have fits. The owner's manual indicates that if your vehicle has such a system, you were given two extra keys, obviously which I do not have. In doing a "search" on this BB, I found a couple messages, indicating the "box" for the alarm is above the radio. Would this hold true for an '86 930 ? Any other thoughts on determining if in fact I do have such a system ?

Yes, your car should have such a system, and if there is a keyway in the door edge (near the latch), in a rather large-looking black cap covering a hex nut, then your car is wired with a security system. Back in those days the security system was independent from the door key, and used a separate key. You should have had two, but I'll bet your PO lost them. Call a gentleman named Tony Euganeo at 610.461.0519. He is a Master Locksmith who has been dealing with Porsche lock and key problems for more than 15 years ( I first encountered him when I had a 356 SC (I just can't seem to pass on anything that says SC), and wanted a transmission key for the Cabriolet. Tony was able to get not only the blank keys, but also to cut the key with the correctly coded teeth. If Tony can't do it, no one can.....Andras |
