Fuchs wheel education needed

New purchaser of 87 Carrera Targa. Proir owner put BBS 7x16 and 8x16 two piece wheels on w/ 20 55 16s and 255 50 16s,and lowered it severly. Need a crane to get me out!

Would like to get it back to stock Fuchs wheels. What is recommended?

I like the feel of the 7s and 8s, but there is almost no clearance on the front fender. Factory option Fuchs this year was 6x16 and 7x16, yet I have read a few sources recommending 7 and 8s (Anderson). Also, how do you decipher the serial number and determine offset. I know the 6J and 7J and 8J references, and that serial should start 911, but clueless to figure out the rest of the info on the wheel. Also, would Euro spec lowering be best, and how does lowering figure into tire clearance as Anderson says should be "properly done to fit 7 and 8s. Paint on this car is original and flawless so I don't want to blister any fenders.

Thanks

I cant answer any of your questions but I am interested in the BBS wheels if and when you decide to get rid of them. Please keep me in mind.

You will be fine w/ 7X16 ET23.3 Fuchs on the front and ET 10.6 8x16 rear. Use 205/55 & 225/50 tires.

ROW ride height is good ~25.5" f/r maybe a tad less.

Don't use ultra high perf tires.

The ET is found on the back of Fuchs paddles, this is a 944 8x16 ET 23.3

I have an 86 with the euro ride height. There is some problem with steep driveways...you can't assume you will clear anything steeper than 6 inches high. Speed bumps are no problem but be carefull crossing roads with high crowns into driveways.

Teh 6s and 7s X 16 are good for routine driving 8s for track. I have excellent handling with 6s and 7s even with HP track Dot tires. I have been looking for a set of used 8X16 with no luck. The 944 wheels are not good for the rear so look for 911 type 8s.

Do you have any pics of the wheels (and your car, of course!)? You know, we all love pics! I am curious just how low the rear is.

I realize this won't help solve your problem...

Wow! That is extremely low. I would expect problems unless some serious suspension work has been done.

+1. I've always liked lowered cars, but jeesh. Sounds like there needs to be quite an alignment to get the suspension to work like it should. I'm fairly new to the world of Porsches, so I'm not sure how low is 'too low', but I'd guess that is.
