3.6L Oil cooler upgrade Q
I'm upgrading my oil cooler from a standard Carrera fender mount to a front mount Setrab 22 1/2" x 8 1/2" model 1-STD172. Will this be sufficient for track work by itself or should I use it in conjuntion with the Carrera cooler already in place? This is for my 3.6L engine in my SC. Thanks

I use a single B&B frt oil cooler 5 1/2 X 2 1/4 X 20
It's hard to compare across brands because most of us haven't had more than 1 front mount installed. Rob Fussi aka Muffinman used a B&B FPOR-9400 Front Spoiler Mount Oil Cooler, with a core size of 6" x 3" x 24" this is the next size up from mine. here's a link to his install

I've done mine three of different ways:
Fender-mount Carrera cooler by itself - inadequate for all but the mildest climes. Two fender coolers: http://rennlight.com/howto/cooler/ Fender cooler and bumper cooler: http://rennlight.com/howto/bumper-cooler/ FWIW, the 2nd setup works better.

Nice info! Do you collect your temp data from the oil gauge alone? OR use a thermometer in the tank? Have you verified that the temps are accurate? I noticed that you said you ran the oil line in the top and out the bottom of the center mount cooler. I believe that you can trap air in your cooler (as you noted yourself in your text), by routing in this fashion. Smart racing offers a note in their oiling products which validates. Their catalog specifically says to route oil in the bottom and out the top of such cooler. I would be that you are losing cooling efficiency due to this routing. Doug

Used conversion metric fittings to -AN and spliced into the original Carrera cooler and a MOCAL cooler for the nose.
Try BAT INC they have a kit.

I have a Carrera cooler with fan in the fender and a B&B cooler in the front like Bill's. I can run my car hard on 100 plus degree days and the temps stay very cool.

I ran a single large Mocal for 3 years and was happy with it until I added AIM Data system this year. The Porsche temp gauge ran up to the second white mark, no higher. I was happy.... until Aim showed that the temp actually hit 250F during warm track days in the northeast. I added a 964 cooler in series, in the fender with fairly poor air flow. Top temps are now around 230F and I can live with that.

Yeah, my 3.6 in the SC hit 240 on a regular basis.......and that was with a Carrera cooler with fan + a front mount (with not great flow through, ie rear exit only had 2 inches clearance)
The 930 runs 210, tops........but it has 3 oil coolers - one in each fender + big sucka up front
