look here...

You are in luck,

Mike (Hawks911) just posted a thread that chronicled his DIY rewrap. He did a beautiful job of it IMO. Check out his thread here:

Good luck!

I did a resto on this wheel 1/2 a year ago and it's held up great.

This:

To this:

I redid the leather and the factory XXXXX stitching. Also... Gunn will not have the correct sized leather for the mid-70's Carrera sport wheel. His kits fit the thinner rims of the SC wheels.

I'm not aware that anyone currently makes a kit for the Carrera sport wheel. I know AGLA does not even though he says he does. Mr. Gunn stated that the SC kit is the same; it isn't.

I called Tony at Autobahn Interiors and he said that for this wheel he would custom cut the leather and stitch a cover for around $400. Seems fair for the work involved and with Autobahn you'd know the leather selection, stitching and fit would be perfect. However, at ~$400 my leather was serviceable! I did a complete resto to the original leather for around $80 in materials. If you look at the link to my wheel resto I go pretty much step-by-step.

As long as you have the leather cover and the stitching holes are intact and the leather hasn't split or turned to suede you can make yours look like mine.

Remember some of these wheels did not originally come with a leather cover. Some sport wheels were just rubbery foam. Here's a factory photo from the Dec. 1973 Christophorus.

I re-stiched a wheel once, it takes a long time.... (are you in Queens NY? cool.) a lot of people replace the wheel, switch it out for a Momo. its a good modification you might want to think about before going thru the trouble with the stock wheel.
