How important is the remote oil cooler in front wheel well
I am building a strosek porsche and just realized the guys that hung the front right fender had to take off the remote oil cooler and just put a return tube in the front there. How important is this remote cooler? Car is a 1984 Euro carbiolet 911 with 82 k on it. The old fender had a mount at the top for it but this new one doesnt.
thanks dave

I would have to say if nothing else has been done to compensate for that fender cooler, it's not good. Once you use the engine enough to get it hot, the cooler on the engine needs the front cooler to help until temps can be lowered/maintained.
You wouldn't have this anymore. -Chris

I hava an '84 and I'd say it's pretty important. Any hot day will get temps up way too high. You'll probable need to fab a special braket to get it in there.

A front valance cooler is definitely a better option.

It's only important if you want to drive the car.

masraum may sound like he's kidding, but he's absolutely right. And be aware that if you go for a front-valence cooler--which is a better option--you should do something to evacuate the air from behind it. Too many people simply butt a valence cooler up against the trunk front sheetmetal, which makes it about 20 percent effective.

Put it back on, you won't be sorry! I too have a Euro and the front cooler here in California is still needed especially in traffic conditions.
Good luck, Alex

Squeeze in the biggest cooler possible and then put a fan on it.
Only slightly too high engine oil temperature = very short engine life. Very undesirable. If/when you sell, someone will ask this. A few $ more now or a whole lot less later, or worse. Best, Grady

You have to figure the factory went from doing a trombone cooler to a full radiator type cooler and then added a fan to that.
Keeping the engine cool with plenty of oil is what keeps the engine alive. You would not consider removing a radiator from a water cooled engine. Right? The factory would not go to this expense if it was not needed.

If you leave as little as 2" between the cooler and the tub to allow for air flow you'll get enough cooling air to drop the temps 30* at the track. Ask me how I know...
