Ok learn me folks. What options do I have for a boost gauge in my 911. I want something very stock looking. Any and all ideas are welcome

(I know a little late)))

north hollywood spedometer sells the VDO boost guage that is designed to replace the clock. Make sure your sitting when you ask for the price. The alternative is to get a small 2 1/4" guage and mount it wherever you want. only it wont look sotck at all.

Ben-VDO makes a 2 1/4 unit that only reads to 15 psi, so its a nice range for "low boost" applications. I used a hole saw to cut a MDF plug the size of the clock hole, then cut a hole for the VDO gauge in the center. Painted it flat black. Added a single led "voltmeter" in the bottom. Looks very nice.

ok I know who sells them all now but Ineed to know the differences. My kit is not 930 and my understanding is the stock 930 ones were electronically signaled and the aftermarket run off pressure is this correct??

They are both pressure/vacuum.

The standard size VDO 0-15psi is fine for these small boost apps.
You don't want a ton of range when you're interested in 0-10psi....

Where you install is up to you.

The P word tax on the VDO 3" gauge for the clock face is about $200. (Just see the link to PP) I won't pay that tax and a 2" gauge in a 3" hole is way too ghetto looking for me.

You don't need to see it much anyway. Once the boost is set where you want it with your boost controller, you're done.

You are getting a boost controller right???

Over boosted as the signal hose from the compressor to the waste gate melted. not good when you don't have a boost gauge

Ben -
A boost gauge is an extremely simple device to install. You shouldn't have to spend $100 on everything you need. The signal can come from a T line in the brake booster or more accurately you can run a vac line back to the intake manifold.
The stock 930 application has a sensor mounted on the diverter valve assembly (BOV) before the throttle that converts the boost signal to an electric signal and attaches to the dash mounted tack unit. I prefer mechanical units.
The clock position is one of the best for viewing. You can easily adapt a smaller VDO gauge to fit the hole and make it look nice. For testing purposes a tattle-tail is very helpful. With the boost signal coming from the engine instead of the brakes you can also detect boost spikes when the throttle slams shut - which lets you know if your BOV or diverter valve is functioning properly.

The VDO Visions series are the ones that match very nicely.

A 0-15psi gauge you get to see some nice deflection at 10psi for $32.50. Seems like I paid less than $30

Here is the link for the whole lineup including mounting brackets, lines, senders for other gauges.....

http://www.egauges.com/vdo_grou.asp?Series=Vision

edit: Brackets, lines, gauge etc. for sure less than $100.

Yeah, that's the gauge I have, 29 bucks on evilbay. I disagree that it looks ghetto in the dash, but that's a matter of taste. I totally agree that it is (a)necessary and (b) best plumbed into the engine compartment. I t'd off the silicone signal line, ran silicone to the tunnel, and teflon tube from there, using some rubber fuel hose as a reducing bushing.

My Gauge

Here is what I installed (2 5/8) when I went turbo, I was able to find the bezel that completed it to look like it belongs in the dash. Also, in my opinion, the vacuum is a huge bonus because I drive by it and am able to get over 21 mpg by keeping +vacuum and - Boost.
Now have fun, I am leaving for a fun weekend in Gatlinburg and the Dragon.

Ben,

Imagine Auto sells a clock replacement gauge for $200. Here's a link:

http://imagineauto.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=II&Product_Code=2BARGAUGE&Category_Code=930electronics

I use one from Ruf, as it is a combination vacuum/boost gauge, which I like a little better.

That is a 2.0bar gauge with NO tatletail and NO vac component. Probably not the best value for what (I believe) Ben has in mind.

Ben - you can pick up an "adapter ring" at your local plumbing store in the PVC section for $1. I trust you have a hacksaw.
