NO BODY wears 6" heels while beating a dead horse!!!! everyone KNOWS you wear a nice comfortable pump...in Delft Blue....



the 75's started getting the galvanized panels as they arrived at the assembly line (around Jan of 75...about the same time the factory ran out of orange bar crests & started using the red bar ones)...

hand me that bat...I swear I saw that damn horse move....

Actually, the Boxster doesn't have a dry-sump system even though that's what Porsche calls it. Here's the full description from the shop manual: "To ensure reliable engine oil supply, the Boxster has an integrated dry-sump lubrication system without an external oil tank. The oil sump is in the bottom of the crankcase."

Sounds like a wet sump to me, which is also exactly what the schematic shows...I would credit the PAG marketing department with the phrase "dry sump," since it implies "better."

Capacity is indeed 9.25 U.S. quarts including the filter.

What your missing is a 911 to call your own!

Give the boxster to the lady of the household and enjoy all you can form your new 911, use the boxster to pick up parts.

I love my 911 because of the way it sounds, because of the way it looks, and especially because of the way it feels driving through the curves. I even like working on it. But you've already driven many 911s and prefer your Boxster. That's fine. Why worry about it?

Me, I like variety, which is why some days I drive my Toyota pickup truck to work as a greeter at Walmart, and other days I fly to Europe on my private jet to cavort with my Italian supermodel mistress on my yacht in Monaco.

I've owned some cars with a lot of grunt from a BMW M5, Jag XJR with a mountain of torque, and even a Mustang Cobra. They are impressive when you press the pedal but Ive learned theres more to enjoy then just power. I still remember the first time I pushed my Pcar around a corner at full throttle with my brother sitting passenger. The sound the engine made and the way it screamed around the corner had us laughing for hours. I had wanted a 911 since I was a child, and yet in the last years I still found myself walking by the powerful machines at car get togethers to talk to a classic 911 owner about his car. I finally realized I needed one.

The solution for you: Keep something with a lot of grunt, but have a 911 around to keep yourself from wishing for more.

Well, whether or not a car has enough power or oomph is definately subjective. I really can appreciate the older 911's for what they were and in many instances, still are, but as a track junkie myself, I also have the bug for a car with more and more power.

One of the things that makes the older 911's so much fun is how light they are. What do they lack? Well, as compared to more modern engines....torque for one thing. You listed off cars that you tested and none were really built for that deep grunt to get them out of a turn at lower rpms.

Honestly I would say the 3.0L SC's were really the first street engines that started having some usable low end power. 3.2L Carreras improved on that even more, but by then the 911 was starting to get heavier, more electronics were taking over and the cars started, in my opinion, to lose that edgy feel from early on.

What to do? For me it is to combine the best of both worlds. Grab an early car, make it as light as you can and drop some power into it. I am just finishing a 1972 RSR and I think you wouldn't think of it as a "dog". 2228 pounds wet and a 3.4L engine with about 350HP at the crank. This power to weight ratio makes the car a blast.

Is it a refined ride? well I guess if you like a spartan interior with RS carpet Recaro seats and lexan all around, it does the trick. It DEFINATELY isn't a boxter with a snug, comfortable feel. More of a strap a rocket to your back kind of comfortable feel.

You might want to look at some cars with modifications that have reduced weight and added power.

Casey, thank you for your input. I'm thinking your right. That 2.7L race car I drove was somewhat like you discripe... all thought it was not running well... If it had been.... Yeah! Mega fun! Lexan windows and these gt3ish fender flares that where rivited on. Not the real thing but still pretty cool looking. That and it had a really pleasing exhaust note... when it wasn't missing. The guys said he had build the entire exhaust, headers and all.
Hey that thumbnail under your screen name. Is that you??? Looks kind like how I wrecked my rally car. Did your 911 live through it? My GTI didn't.
What is TARGA NEWFOUNDLAND? Sorta like autocross??? I'm intrested.

Wow, I missed the rally car in your sig the first time around. Helluva way to race!

as for my thumbnail, The car is midway across an intersection, going uphill and airborne. We were in the air for about 35 feet an managed to jump the entire thing.

The car was pretty damaged about 3 seconds after the picture was taken. 90mph and slammed backwards into a rock. Both me and the navigator were knocked out.

We were running the Targa Newfoundland at the time. It is a 2000 mile road rally and an an amazing event. It was my second time running it and we had a series of bad luck that led to the accident. The year before we finished 6th overall aout of 87 cars.

I ended up splitting the components of the car into 2 cars. Both listed in my sig. The car is getting retubbed but the engine went in the 1972 chassis I got from TRE and was then finished by Zuffenhaus.

I have some very minor things to do to it and it will be complete. Here is a picture I just took of it.

Nice eh? It is a GT-3 class race car. Fun thing is that it is street legal.

Well, I own an '86 911. My Pop owns a '98 Box 2.5 with a 5 speed. We did a top great acceleration test from 50 MPH up to (name the speed) and my 911 ate up the Box. It may have something to do with the 5th gearing in both cars (mine being much lower). So, we tried 4th, same result. He'll get me from a stop light, but only because the clutch uptake is way easier (dare I say, HONDAish?).

The Box does handle pretty well, but I'm so used to AXing and DEing my 911 now that the Box feels down right civil (not to mention slower)!

Too funny. The loser's obviously a pecker puffer whose ex-boyfriend probably smoked his Boxster's ass with a riced Honda.

The only thing Boxster drivers see around me is my tail lights. In either car.

i am pretty darn sure I can show you what you are missing. The sound of me hitting 105 in third, in my opinion, should be experienced by any car guy and I would be more than happy to share.... even with you =)

I have to say that what I like most about my car is that I have hot rodded mine to my liking.
