Help! Installing Chin Spoiler

Can someone tell me if I need to remove the front valance or bumper in order to install a chin spoiler. I just received my new chin spoiler today and need suggestions. Also, is there a diagram in any of the publications that shows how to install it and where each piece of hardware (bolts, nuts, washers) fits. I'm looking for basic instructions if anybody has had experience installing one. My next project will be to install a rear spoiler. Thanks for your help.

There was an article in the August 1999 issue of 'Excellence' on p. 133 adressing the replacement of the 'smile' and installation of a chin spoiler ... several pictures showed the removal of the bumper, etc.

Ruben and Warren:

When I added my chin spoiler, I didn't have to take off the bumper. Yes, you do have to remove bumper to do the "smile", but not the chin spoiler.

Ruben:

Just place the rubber chin spoiler up against the bottom of the valence panel, and you will see how it attaches. The metal brackets are there to spread the load of the nuts and bots, so that you don't warp the valence. It's really quite easy, but because the rubber is VERY flexible, it might be easier with two people; one to hold things in place, and the other to bolt it up.....Andras

Folks, while you're at it, if possible, consider changing nuts and bolts over to stainless steel.
When I restored my car, the darn screws were so rotten, it took a day to take them all off without breaking things. Especially the side ones.
If you never intend to take it off/restore thethink, no prblem, but it's still the lower part of the car...

You know you're hooked on this stuff when you come back to this thread, listen to this sound, and you just smile. Man, that's great. Thanks Matt! I'm gonna get an MD recorder for this very purpose.

Thaks for all the tips. I finally managed to get under the car today and install the chin spoiler. It was not very difficult at all. Now all I need is to install a Carrera tail to balance the downforce. Again, thanks for the feedback.
