Odometer options - Help

I noticed several days ago that my 83 SC odometer has stopped registering miles driven. The speedo still works but the odometer does not.
-
Is the fix a DIY or must the unit be shipped back to VDO as my mechanic recommends for a $200 rebuild? How about a used unit? If a used unit is a feasbible option, is it possible to reset the unit to the mileage showing on the stopped unit? If the mileage cannot be adjusted, how best to document the change?

Thanks for the help.

Chuck,

Rick Borth of Overseas Spedo in Austin Texas did a excellent job on my 85 spedo, which was doing the same thing yours is. If memory serves me right it cost under $50 and they turn it around in a day or two.

With shipping that means you are without a spedo for four days max... and alot cheaper than $200. He also does other gauges...

1 800 444 0292 or 512 329 8200

Joe and Charlie - thanks much for the references. The shop in Dallas offers an on-line quote - I sent the info in and now waiting for a response. By the way, need to add one more "e" to the url.

There is a teck note on this BB that explains in detail how to fix the Odometer. I had the same problem with my 72T when I first got it. One word of caution. If you do it yourself, read all of the document first and dont remove the needle. It is a bear to re-calibrate. You don't need to remove it and alas this is the voice of experience when I say to read the entire document befor attempting it yourself. It really was not that hard to accomplish.
