My 3.0 RSR project
Building on a 1974 RS body-shell with 2 times Rally Monte Carlo experience 1982 & 1984
Just tell me what you think of it. Nice to read on this forum how Americans being that kind of enthusiast about 3.0 RSR. Hope to talk to people who also building a RSR, here in Europe its hard to find. :)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160144915.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160144935.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160144960.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160144972.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160144990.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160145002.jpg [img] |
Stunning!
|
What kind of slide valves are those?
What engine management are you going to use? Looks great! Paul |
Really, really nice looking.
Not many of these 3.0 RSR are built by many. You are doing an incredible job. Please keep sending us more pics and you make additional progress. There is a very nice replica 3.0 RSR on sale with eBay that I am drooling over right now. Yours looks everybit as nice.... |
Wow, keep us all posted. REALLY looks great so far.
|
Thanks for the great compliments and interest.
The engine on the pics is the 1st one i build. Here some specs; Base 964 C2 1991. P/c 102 mm 3.8 liter Cup Cups 3.8 Cams with Porsche motor-sport rockers Slide valves reproduction. B & B headers RS alternator drive (single belt, ALU lock up) Choice in fuel / ignition managements; DTA fast or EFI But i have to build me an other engine cause it is not legal to race in the hitsoric class here in Holland whit those specs. So i am building a other engine now. Base 930 3.3 engine case, changed to fit 100 mm 100 mm Mahle p/c CR 11.0-1 964 balanced crank 930 oilpump RSR 3.0 cams whit center-lube oiling RSR lightened flywheel Slide valves RSR Pump,Mechanical injection, changed to 3.6 ltr etc. etc. At the outside of the engine not to see its illegall :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160150843.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160151140.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160151212.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160151472.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160151593.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160151722.jpg |
WOW - lovley work, you seem to have my dream job!
|
|
:)
Yep, it is a nice job. I grew up whit Porsche, i think i was even made in it,lol My father started his company in the mid 60's and he did the maintenance en repair of the only RSR, 934 and 935 here in Holland In 1993 he died by a car accident. So i took over the company of my mother in 1995. In 1994 i sold his racing car to the USA, i think it is still there on the tracks drove by an Dutch meat broker. Maybe some one knows the car Got some nice old pics of that time. the car we sold to the USA in 1994 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160153553.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160153598.jpg me the little guy whit my father standing http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160153679.jpg the 1974 RSR ex Tebernum car, this car we did the race prepare for in the mid 70's drived by Toon Suykerbuik http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160153865.jpg the 935 ex Rolf Stommelen car race prepare drived by Henri van Oirschot http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160154077.jpg some rally pics of my father in the mid 80's http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160154157.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160154191.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160154216.jpg Enjoy! |

How far are you from Koln? |
Nice pictures!
Do you have more pictures of your dolly? I'm getting ready to build one soon and I like the way yours bolts on. |

Glorious!
|
Thanks for sharing more info. Nice to see someone on the other side of the pond with the same love for PORSCHE, sharing their perspective.
Hope to see more as your project progresses. Good Luck. |
BergPorsche,
When you get a chance maybe you could post pics of the other 5 in your collection. Can't get too much of a good thing :) Thanks, Bryan Beaumont |
Great project and old pics !
Thanks for sharing. |
thnx to all of you.
Here some more pics fro the old Porsche factory in the 70's when we visited. You can see that all is handcrafted instead of computerized building today. Leland, we are about 250 km from Koln, in the midlle of Holland, 30 km from Arnhem. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160210328.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160210391.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160210467.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160210599.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160210695.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160210761.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160210859.jpg |

Such a great project!! I LOVE the your 996 GT3RS.. WHat a SUPER car what do you think of it!?
Next time I am in Holland ( Zwolle ) which may be next year..... I will swing in. It's good to see such great Porsche projects! you have some GREAT machines EM |
Wim,
Do you know what mm your throttle bodies and stacks will be on the 3.6 mfi your building? A good friend of mine just had Henry Schmidt build a 3.2SS mfi with 41.5 mm throttle bodies and 52mm stacks. The motor makes power all the way up to 7700 rpm. 335 HP!!???!!! He put the motor in his Viper Green RS clone which weighs 2200#, SCARY FAST!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160267814.jpg |
Do you have any more pics of your silver 74 RS close....it looks incredible too.
|
I'll measure the stacks tomorrow at work Bryan, don't know what size they're exactly right now.
More silver 3.0 rs pics comming up soon. |
Wim,
How old are you? I've been doing this most of my life as well; my dad's a Porsche mechanic with his own business. He's still alive, but our stories seem similar. It's very cool to see another guy come up through the ranks to take over pop's Porsche business. Nice factory pictures, too. Very cool stuff. |
Bryan, the valves are 42 mm/1.653 inch, stacks inlet 60 mm/ 2.365 inch.
I don't know what power and revs the engine will bring me at the dyno, I'll let you know when we got that far. i am trying to read and learn as much as possible on this forum what other technicians are building and their know-how. In Europe there are a lot of "Wise guys"not willing to share their knowledge about engine concepts, in the USA its 100 % different i experienced. Its amazing what some people are building, great stuff. Mr 9146 almost counting 40yrs now, nice too hear that there are more son-father relationships like me. Here some more pics if the slide valves which i use, i don't know who produced them cause my father earned them before. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160403126.jpg The left is the adapter to fit the sides on the c2/4, right one for the old type of cylinder heads http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160403204.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160403364.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160403394.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160403410.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160403539.jpg |
Pics from Cylinder head compare, 935 and standard 911
935 valve guide is much shorter then standard and on the exhaust side there is canal for extra oil lubrication the exhaust valve (more cooling). Also the valves are 1mm thinner then standard 8mm compare of 9mm standard size. Valve stem seal on the 935 head was required to use. Using these valves whit titanium valve concave washer, different collets reducing the weight whit more the 30 grams per valve. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160405395.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160405418.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160405437.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160405457.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160405484.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160405509.jpg |
Fantastic cars - they look beautifully put together too. Looking forward to more photos.
(really enjoyed the older shots too) |
subscribed...that Silver car of yours looks simply stunning.
|
|
Wim,
I live in an area here in the State of Michigan with a pretty large Dutch population. I definitely want to make it over to the Netherlands one of these days, hopefully when I can go for 2-3 weeks to really take in as much of Europe as possible. Keep up the great work on the project, it will turn out great! |
Looking really, really, really, really nice!!!
('t is hier wel effe anders dan op het porscheforum.nl hè :D ) |
een verademing, jeroen, geen iwab (ik weet alles beter) figuren tegen gekomen tot nu toe.
