Idle RPM??????
My 77 911S with 2.7 CIS Idles at 1100 RPM's is this way too high? I have tried to turn the idle down but it stalls if set lower. Is this beacause i am not also adjusting my fuel/air mixture? What is the proper RPM for this car when it is idling? And how can I adjust it?

My 73's tach reads 1100 when the engine is idling. It sounds like a normal idle to me, and -- since 1000 is the lowest mark on the dial, I've always assumed the low end readings are probably not 100% accurate.

Shawn, I do not profess to be an expert on idle mixtures or speed, but I'm learning the hard way. I found that I was forever stalling when my mixture was set too lean at idle, almost regardless of idle speed. Our cars have totally different injection systems, but I would imagine the principles are the similar.
I noticed a huge increase in idle speed torque upon enrichment, and you don't need to be nearly so fussy about dumping the clutch- it just picks up and goes, even when I set my speed down to 900rpm as the specs quote. There was no way I could have driven like that before. Just ask my neighbours who I'm sure were getting sick of me swearing evey time I stalled getting up our midly inclined driveway.... |
