Sorry Michael. If it's any consolation, that car will still be a blast to drive. It's just going to hurt you when you try to sell it. Hopefully you didn't overpay to begin with. You might even consider legal recourse if you only bought it recently.

thanks< I bought it from a guy last week, he had it rebuilt years ago probably 100k on it, I have all the paperwork from the re-build not sure he knows himself
and yes I'm sure I over paid haha

Thanks Mark, its been serviced regularly at Porsche of Honolulu, they must know if they have performed work on it, Time for a Twin Plug I guess.

It may be that just the case was replaced with all Carrera parts, including the crank, from the original car? It's a long shot but worth investigating.

That's a great point, I was thinking about that today. The SC case and Carrera cases are the same, but the fuel injection systems are obviously different.

A photo will tell us. Maybe Mike lucked out......

Yes! Looks like Gordon was spot-on, that's a 3.2L intake system! Someone must have used the older 911SC case for a rebuild. I doubt they added that intake system to a 3.0L engine.

So you no longer have a numbers-matching car, but you likely have a real 3.2L engine like you're supposed to.

Sorry to have given you a fright. I should have thought about it more carefully.

In my free time I frequent a scrap dealer near me...social distancing to the max.

I found a block under a load of scrap and knew it was a Porsche block but given it is under a load of scrap I was only able to pull the block number.

Can anyone please help me ID what it is?

Unfortunately that is not a serial #, and is really not useful. Any raised # is likely to be a casting mark. Any serial or type # is punched into the surface.

Aplogies I too am new to this and find the whole VIN and engine number confusing, I am looking buying a 1969 911 targa, its badged as 911s although I suspect its a 911T, the engine number is 6195940 and the VIN 119110377, if anyone can decipher these I would be very grateful.
