That’s encouraging, as there was a rapid development of the 911 at this time and swift model/engine changes, can you tell how many were made ? and from the numbers if it’s 2.0 or 2.2 (?bhp) it looks like it has carbs if that helps, thanks in advance :)

djpateman 10-15-2020 01:41 PM

1969 model year was only 2.0, and the 911T was only carbs

Is the engine/transmission numbers printed anywhere or do you need Porsche Classic to "match the numbers"?

djpateman 10-15-2020 06:27 PM

About the only time I see the original engine # recorded on anything that comes with the car is on the Maintenance Record book, and even then it is not always there. To know for certain what engine or transmission # the car was originally delivered with is to have one of the Factory documents (Kardex, CoA, PPS or CTC) The last two only confirm the engine (and possibly transmission) are original. The CoA is no longer available. The Kardex for cars from 1950 to 1969 are only available through back channels such as myself. For the 1970's there are options I can help you with.

Hello all,

Would love to confirm the engine on the car i just got.
Car is a '77 911S
Engine is supposedly a Euro '78 SC Engine.
Vin number of car is 930/03 9117202794
Here is the serial number off the engine block- 6380997

Would love to confirm which engine this has, thanks!

Hey so had a question for everyone. I have a 75 911 targa S. The engine has been swapped the first 3 numbers of my engine serial are '659'. So it's a 6 cylinder, california engine, how can I be sure it's not an 89 engine? I'm assuming it's a 79 swapped into a 75 car?

This would be the 3.0 SC engine correct? I've read a little about these engines and hear they are good. Any insight on that?

Thanks
Derek

*6X5xxxx*
where:
6 = Engine design, 6-cylinder engine
X = numbers 1-7 (see list below)
5 = Model year 1975
xxxx = Sequential serial number usually starting with 0001. Exceptions: Starting with 9001 = engine for Sportomatic.

X = 1, 911, Type 911/41, (or Type 911/46 for Sportomatic)
X = 3, 911S, Type 911/42, (or Type 911/47 for Sportomatic)

X = 6, Carrera 2.7 (MFI), Type 911/83
X = 7, Turbo 3.0, Type 930/50

I am new to the forum. I have a 1973 914 2.0L. I am looking at a 911s Targa. VIN is 911 6 210681 and the engine number is 6291039 and 930/04. I feel like this is not the matching engine. Can someone help me with this thank you.

djpateman 01-02-2021 04:41 AM

Derek, an1989 engine has a letter code for the year, so cannot be that.
rcochran, that is a 1979 engine in a 1976, so not matching.
Email me if you want to get a CoA type of Report to find your original engines.

I thought I had a 3.0

Engine # 6282128 VIN 9118201800

I see a post above stating engine # 627 would be a 77 2.7 liter. Does this mean I have a 78 2.7 liter?

djpateman 03-18-2021 05:13 PM

VIN 9118201800 1978 911SC-3.0 Coupe for USA
Engine # 6282128 1978 911SC-3.0 Type 930/04 for USA but not CA

flyingz 03-19-2021 06:45 PM
