Horn Not Working

Hey folks. Question about the horn relay: can it be exchanged with any of the other relays? What about testing the relay itself?

I'm troubleshooting my horn not working, obviously.

And for those of you using a Momo wheel: how did you hook up the switch through the adapter hub? Doesn't the wire get wrapped around the spindle when you turn the wheel?

Szervusz Mark:

If I remember correctly when I added my MOMO "Cavallino" wheel, the wire for the horn came in through the middle of the wheel, and attached to the horn "button" through a spade plug. Yes it got twisted when you tuirned the wheel, but then you unturned the wheel, and it was straight again. But since it is in the center of the "circle" it doesn't move when you turn the perimeter of the circle, it just twists slightly.

Does this seem clear? I don't think you have a problem, unless you are wrapping the wire around something. It is meant to "float" in the middle, and it should be long enough to twist and return when you straighten the wheel........Andras

Mark,

I don't know for sure on the '86's, but on earlier cars, yes, the horn relay ca n be interchanged with the fog light and headlamp relays (assuming factory fog lights) ...

The factory tended not to change things once perfected and bug-free. Hence identical tail lamp wiring on all cars, '65-'89, including the built-in wiring for the dry-sump oil-level sender, and rear fog lamps (mirror-images of left and right tail lamp assemblies) ... for all of you out there wondering about the rear fog lamps, and why there is only ONE!

I'll mess with it tonight, Warren - I'll see if the relays are the same and I'll perhaps swap them out. I'll bet that's it.

Andras - there's two holes in my adapter - one's for the spindle (centered) and one off to the side. If the adapter is on the spindle, that hole will movein relation to the horn wire....that could be pretty long. Perhaps I'm confused. I'll check it out this evening.

Thanks guys -
