935 Spring plate install problem

I think I know the solution.... but figured I would ask for opinions anyhow.

I am installing 935 style rear spring plates purchased from Dave White Racing on my RSR clone. The barrel portion of the spring plate where it connects to the plate that bolts to the car chassis rubs on the chassis. I have the small spacers in place that came with the piece, and the plate is installed correctly, but it rubs on the chassis behind where it mounts.

I could put some more spacers in place and use longer bolts to gain some clearance, but that would seem to have a negative impact on getting suspension alignment right.

The other option.... the one I am leaning toward.... involves a 5lb sledge hammer, a towel and some good old fashioned manual manipulation of sheet metal.

Anyone else had this issue? What did you do?
