Pedal Box rebuild...

All,

My father and I just completed the rebuild of the pedal box in my 911. All in all, not to bad, except for the pin that must be removed on the clutch pedal side. We had to drill it out. I was surprised to find 4 old bronze bushings already installed in the box. 3 of the remaining old bushings were plastic. The old bushings looked pretty good, except for the plastic bushing that is hooked to the throttle linkage. We found some surface rust on the pedal cage, so I sanded it down and repainted it. There was also some surface rust on the "working" metal components. A quick pass with steel wool fixed this problem. I removed a lot of dirt and old grease and re-lubed everything with white lithium grease.

The pedal movement is a lot better now. My next project will be to rip out all of the old carpet and undercoat everything. I also plan on installing dynamat throughout the interior prior to a new carpet install.

Too many things to replace and fix...

Bill

Lol, Bill, it sounds as if you got off easy on the pedal box rebuild-usually you have to resort to a hydraulic press and a full complement of cuss words to get that pin out! (I know I did). I ended up sandblasting EVERYTHING and repainting with POR 15 before fitting new bronze bushings (I even had to build the shafts up with weld a little and grind them back down to size to get the bushings to fit well, everything was so rusted), but I'm stubborn-would probably have made more sense to get a used assembly in better shape from Parts Heaven or the like.

Yeah...my pedals work a whole lot easier now. I think I may purchase a new clutch cable/cover to make certain that everything is strong and working properly. I guess I lucked out on the rebuild...I have heard a few horror stories about that damn pin!
