Looking for interesting paperweight

I don't get to look at enough 911 stuff these days. THe engine in my miata isn't air-cooled. I'd love to have something around to remind me of the 911. I was thinking that it'd be cool to have something from a 911 sitting around that I could gaze at on my desk when I've got a sec.

I was wondering if any of you guys that have been around Porsches for years has anything laying around that isn't really useful but you haven't thrown out. You know, just crap in a box under the work bench or something. I was thinking something like a cylinder, piston, rod, head, valve cover that says 'PORSCHE', etc... Any one of those things or combination of those things. I'm willing to pay shipping and a bit for your time/trouble, but since this will just sit, I'm not looking to spend much. I thought that someone around here might have something that's too worn to use laying around in a dirty corner that they'd be willing to donate the the "I miss my Porsche" charity.

THanks for your time.

Easy...

1. Buy a new CV joint.
2. Take it apart and play with the ball bearings
3. Put it back together in the wrong orientation
4. Put it in the vice and tap it with hammer when it does not rotate properly
5. Hit it really hard with a hammer to try and get it back apart, thus forever jamming the pieces together.

Now you own a genuine Porsche paperweight!

I swear I could make my own "admit to your stupidity" thread that would take several hours to read.

Mine is actually a salsa jar cleaned out and filled with graveL from turn 1 at the Glen.

A souvenir from my first DE.

You're killing me. Money is tight these days. I sold the last one to pay off debt incurred as a result of a layoff that was being payed off too slowly. It's almost gone, but I'm not making another major purchase like a car until all of that debt is gone.

By then, I bet 911s will be even cheaper. 964s are going for $15K. SCs - $10K.

Meanwhile, how about those Miatas. Build up a Miata R. It can't cost too much $$, and should make for some entertaining driving.

Just a thought.

As a paperweight??

Well, since I'm driving a miata already, the 924 doesn't really sound like a step up. Actually since the 924 would be much older than my miata and a Porsche, it would be a step down due to the cost factor. My miata is about as close as you can get to the 911 driving experience as I think you can get for the money. It handles really, REALLY well since I've gone to 15" wheels w/sticky tires and stiffer springs, it's a blast to drive, it's reliable, it's cheap, it's very well engineered, and it's bulletproof. The main differences between the two cars are 1 the miata is a helluva lot slower and 2 the miata is a helluva lot cheaper.

The most important difference, the miata is not a Porsche.

924 would be good only if you had a big desk.

Yep, a really, really big desk. And I'm looking for something more 911/air-cooled related.

I have a whole bunch of used rocker arms with the adjusting screws...etc. I throw away lots of stuff every day or give it to the scrap guys when they come around. Give me a shopping list and I'll keep my eyes open for ya.

I just threw away a frozen 2.2T motor, a couple of brake rotors, a burnt up crank, a broken rod w/piston still attached, and a bent, right front A-arm.

One of those would have made a good desktop item, no? Especially the motor ...

Boss: Hey, do have the Miller file?
Me: Yeah, it's on my desk ... help me lift this motor.
Boss: I'm not paying worker's comp.

i had a piston to a dunebuggy me and my ex girlfriend built together (she watched). i polished the aluminum real shiny, painted the top the same color of the dunebuggy body, then put a 1/4" piece of plexi on top, and cut it the same size as the top of the piston & torch smoothed the edges. drilled 4 holes and tapped and fitted them with some pan head stainless screws, then put a pic of us in the top under the plexi and had the side engraved . this was the pre big-bore piston.

polished pistons look great!

Hmm, a broken rod complete with piston would have been ideal or a head or cylinder or something from the 2.2. Oh well. Better luck for me next time.
