1977 911S steel braided brake lines?

I am soon to be upgrading my brakes to the 944T brakes and wanted to know where would be a good place to buy steel braided brake lines? I assume the fitting is the same on the 944T caliper...

Thanks.

The factory uses a section of flex line to accomodate suspension movement. The line from the caliper to the flex line is normally rigid. Rather than fabricating the bends on rigid tubing for an upgraded caliper, some guys use a flex line-to-flex line connection.

What's better? I think the rigid lines will last longer, but it takes more work to fabricate the new rigid line.

Thanks.

As a matter of opinion, I prefer the Factory original or OEM brake hoses. There are several important reasons why.

First is the “feel” of the brakes. More rigid brake hydraulic systems are more difficult to modulate at the limit of traction and more prone to wheel lock-up. The slight “flex” of the OEM hoses improves the braking at the limit.

The other is serviceability. Regular OEM (Ate) brake hoses last decades. Aftermarket (racing) Teflon with Stainless steel braiding are one season at best in my opinion. The issue is dirt gets between the braiding and the pressure tube and can’t be cleaned. This chafes the tube to the point of failure. You can’t detect the problem until failure.

If you feel you must have SS/Teflon hoses, replace them every year or more often. IMHO!

Another issue I think is being discusses here is the combination of rigid (steel) brake pipes and flex hoses. Many conversions require just the right set of pieces (occasionally unavailable). One trick is to extend the length of the flex hose from the chassis connection pipe system to the caliper. Many racers do this. The critical issue is to never have the hose in torsion bind and avoid chafing at the (necessary) intermediate support. A lot of serious engineering went into the Factory placement of the flex hose.

Best,
Grady

pelican braided lines

Brady:
i just bought some pelican braided lines instead of the rubber thinking that they were better. I will not replace them every year and i do not race the car but i do not need the aggravation of worrying about them so should i send them back?
