Where to get a clutch centering tool?
 

I see a 17 piece clutch centering tool set in the pelican catalog. I just need one for centering the clutch on a 3.2 motor.

Pelican catalog has this

Never needed one. Eye ball it, or use a long socket to help you center it.

I'll give it a shot. I'd rather not have to wait for the tool to get shipped...

You sure a VW one won't fit? I've never tried one, but one never knows about these German cars. I've also eyeballed it many times in the old VW days, but there wasn't much to loose. Anyway, with the trans out on the ground, it should be easy to check out your alignment. If it doesn't slide in freely, at least you don't have to lower the engine and back it out of the car to realign. Do that a couple of times and you either get good at eyeballing or buy the damn tool.

I'll bet you could put the toilet paper holder in the drill press and come up with something. He Heh. ;)

i helped a guy put a clutch in a mercedes years ago. we could not eye ball it and worked hours on it.....i went to a hardware store and bought some wooden dowels. one fit into the center bearing and used a larger one for the clutch hole....drilled a hole in the larger one, put the smaller dowel into it, and you have a centering tool.

And when that's done, you can put it in the toilet paper holder to replace the one you messed up.

you can also get it to work by loosley doing up the pressure plate bolts, slide the box on and then tighten up a few of the pplate bolts through the access holes, slide the box off again then tighten all the bolts to the right pressure - wotks like a treat.

Remember you might have to twist the axel stubs as you slide the box on, this helps align the splines.

I believe that the tool is the same as Ford so look for it locally. Take the clutch disc with you and try the tool in the spline. They make cheap plastic ones that work very well

for the money and time saved, i think the easiest way to do this is with the plastic tool, mine is made by ford...$5 and easy to get

I went to my local Auto Zone and paid less than $5 for a plastic "clutch alignment tool" marked "Ford" and it worked perfectly...
