Where to get front bearing races?

In my Sunday morning stupor, have I missed where Pelican sells front bearing races? After having my front rotors resurfaced it was noted that one of the inner bearings was tweaked so I installed a new one only to find out that bearings and races should be replaced together. Sigh, now I get to do it again. Good practice, right?

I see the bearings listed but not the races. Do they come together as a set? The part picture only shows the bearing.

Thanks for the help.

Must...get...coffee...

The bearing comes with a matched race. If you are in a rush they are a pretty standard bearing and any local parts store probably will stock the correct SKF bearing and seal.

Cheers

Thank you Jeff. I bought the bearing from NAPA and it said SKF on the box, which was just big enough to hold the bearing. Are the bearings and races normally together in the same packaging or separate items just sold together as a pair? Maybe the NAPAster forgot to include it and I didn't know any better.

They should be together, the bearing should be sitting inside the race wrapped in plastic in the box. The race in not very big.

Cheers

Nope, only the bearing wrapped in plastic. I just went to NAPA to double-check and apparently (at least for NAPA?) SKF inner bearings and races come in two boxes. The bearing part number is LM67048 and the race is LM67010, although I didn't get a good feeling about the way the guy determined the race part. Can someone confirm these part numbers?

Thanks.

That makes no sense to me. Bearing and the race are matched parts - they should come in the same box. I can see the bearing seals being a seperate box or inner and out bearing being seperate.
Timiken (sp) and FAG also make bearing for that application if I remember correctly. It's just a VW beetle front bearing if I remember correctly.

Chris is right, the bearing and the race are "matched", at least in theory. In other words, they recommend you do not mix and match bearings and races even with the same part number.

Cheers

Chris, I agree. I even took the old box in to compare thinking that maybe it was a defect but we opened a new box and it was also just the bearing.

The inner bearing they sell comes with the race, but it was NAPA branded and made in China so I passed.

Jeff, maybe NAPA sells SKF bearings and races that are rebranded or aren't the real thing? I notice they're made in Mexico. Is that what Pelican sells?

This is strange, have they brought a race out and shown it to you in its own little box? I think I would drive down the street to some other parts place. I bought bearings here at NAPA (maybe 10 sets over the last two years) and they all came in one package. Same part number (skf) I get from local Porsche specific parts supplier.....

Could be made in Mexico, would not surprise me. They outsource to where the labor is cheap. I can't remember who made some of the other ones I have used but I have used ones made in Japan and Germany as well. Not sure about quality difference because I repack and change them frequently on my DE car as a matter of course.

Cheers

Also, just looking through my parts and reference catalogue and it clearly shows the inner and outer as a single part number that includes bearing and race. Inners are part number 999 059 098 00 and the outers are 999 059 065 00.

cheers

Jeff, thanks for looking into part numbers. Yes, I had the NAPA parts guy bring out both a new inner bearing in a box, which had no race, and a separately boxed race, with a different part number. Both were in blue NAPA boxes with an SKF logo on them. Maybe there's a bad batch?

I'm going to order from our host because I'm gathering that it's better and preferable to have the bearings paired with their races. Maybe on Grandma's car it would be okay...

The day wasn't a total loss though. My dad came by for a bit and helped me remove the master cylinder. The allen bolt that holds the MC from within the cabin broke, which is better than stripiping, which is what I thought was going to happen.
