steering wheel noise

I installed a genuine porsche 930 S steering wheel a while back and it made a scratching noise at lets say under ten mph when you spun it anyway. Then the steering wheel came loose so i replaced the bushing and it was fine. It currently is tight but still makes the sound... anyone know what i should do?

thanks

sammy

Cool Ditto......

The one on my SC does the same thing. I know you were looking for a way to eliminate the noise, but sometimes misery loves company.

Check the upper bearing on the steering shaft. It is located just below the universal joint that can be accessed in the smuglers hatch. When mine went it got noisy and then the steering was quite difficult to turn.

my scraping noise comes from the plastic cover rubbing on the wheel adapter

Mine makes the same noise. I've read some where on the forum that this could be scraping on the horn ring. Apply some dielectric (sp) grease to make it go away. I've not tried this yet, maybe this weekend as the wheel needs to come off as well.

Mine made this scraping noise for awhile right before the upper bearing failed. I did the standard "upper bearing replacement procedure" and everything's fine now.

I second the horn contact. I cleaned mine with a little sandpaper when I put my wheel back on, and it was a little scratchy for a while - went away though.

I, too, vote for the horn ring contact under the steering wheel. When I sandpapered mine many years ago it resulted in a scraping sound. Polishing it instead of roughing it stopped the noise. Polish the contact button, too.
