'74 911 CIS problem
Hi,
I'm now try to solve for several weeks a problem with my '74 CIS. The car is very hard starting hot or cold. The system pressure is too low (only 3.5 bar) and I don't know why. Here the list of replaced parts: - Fuel pump incl. check valve - Fuel accumulator - Warm-up regulator - Fuel injectors - Fuel filter My last suspicion is the fuel distributor (which is of course the most expensive part). Does anybody here has a better idea? Thanks Andreas |

I would look to see if you have your cold start valve (2.7 CIS, right?) plugged in, or see if it's working. I don't know much about fuel pressures, so I can't help you there. Also you can try checking your mixture. When I was running lean it was really hard to start when hot. But then again, it may have something to do with your ignition; points, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, all that good stuff. Just wait until Warren jumps on; he'll give you a few good hints. I have a 74 2.7l cis....and I had two problems with starting the car. The first one was pulled head studs and burnt exaust valves. Second, mixture was lean and made starts very hard, specialy hot starts.

This same thing happened on my 77 2.7 CIS also, someone gave me a hint and told me to turn my key to the "on" position for about 10 sec before turning it over, something to do with the drain from starter and fuel pump at same time during start up? Anyways it works well for me

The fuel injection manuals mentioned on an earlyer post would really help. There is a section that addresses all the possible places where a loss of pressure could occure.

Thanks to all of you!
Two things I found out this week: 1. The system pressure might be OK since I did a mistake then measuring it :-/ 2. When my (former!) shop replaced the CD unit (Permatune) they putted in the wrong coil! => I've probably searched for the problem in the wrong place all along :-( Andreas |
