rebuilt engine in on 83sc , ignition off now?? help
Hello again friends....well my newly rebuilt engine with JE pistons (9:8:1) and 964 cams is in and was having problems at first getting it to run right and found my new pop off valve was leaking so i fixed that but now my ignition timing went to being off quite a bit, thats clockwise on the distributor id guess 20 degress....to counterclockwise about 10-15 deg. off after the leak was found. But now the distributor is set all the way to the left or ccw just to get the engine running ok, of course the engine runs ok but anything after 2000 rpm the engine misfires....please tell me what is wrong here, this mean more air leaks somewhere or is it now something else.....this is a 83sc with new cylinders/pistons/cams ... ive been messing with fuel distributor and i think ive got it in the middle, but this is only by sight and sounds....

It sounds like you may have the vacuum hoses at the distributer coming from the wrong sources .If you are using the original distributer ,it has 2 connections.One is vac advance and other is retard.Try reversing the hoses.

tried that already, hhaaaaaa.....i do remember taking the distributor out when i was replacing the fuel injection and other compnents, do u think i may have put it back in wrong? If so whats the proper procedure in replacing it back or checking to see if its in right?? if i rotate the crank pulley to zg1 where should the dist. rotor be pointing too???

It should point to cyl #1 (every 2 revolutions) I is probably close if it runs at all. If you have moved the dist you need to set the timing with a timing light.

When you install the distributor, don't point the rotor at #1, it should be rotated approx. one gear tooth, because when you mate the gears, the helical design rotates the rotor to #1. Check that #1 is at TDC for combustion, then drop the dist. in.

thanks john and souk i just did it and the timing seems to be correct now....but the car is still hesitating pretty bad above 2000 rpm and sometimes pops...remind yall i just dropped this engine in and have tried to eliminate any air leaks and have messed w/the fuel distributor alot and still cant seem to get it right??? any i missed yall think??
