Hood questions?
I'm attempting to replace my hood. Car has a fiberglas 993 kit, however the hood is metal & appears to be original to the car. The leading edge is severely wrinkled (looks like someone tried to pry it open). I'm guessing it will be cheaper to find a replacement and have it painted to match vs. fixing/re-painting this one.
![]() A few questions: long hood vs. short hood? Didn't know there were different lengths... Does anyone make a "street-weight" hood that accepts stock hinges & mounts? The company that sold the body kit (Better Bodies) only offers a "racing hood" which utilizes hood pins...don't want that look. Thanks in advance, D. Ocean Miami, FLA |

Plenty of fiberglass hoods available that utilize the stock latch. But, you might be correct in thinking you could find a good hood and paint it. Actually, if painting is going to occur, a little body work would be rather incidental and not that much more money.
Long hoods curve down at the leading edge to meet the top of the early 911 ('65-'73) front bumper. "Short" hoods meet a rubber "smille" gasket which lays on the impact style bumper. Then, there's the 964 Carrera bumper. Same hood, though. |
