Boulder, CO - Want to Check Out a Car For Me?

Hello Fellow Pelicanites in CO. There is a '73 RS clone for sale on these pages that I may be interested in. Is there anyone in the Boulder, CO area that would be willing to check it out for me before I schedule a trip? I know its asking a big favor, but I would appreciate any help if it is not too much trouble.

Thanks...

Scott / Grady,

I'm about 10 minutes from Boulder, and would love to tag along with Grady just to learn. Not that I can add any real value...

I've bought some small items from the seller of this car. He was a very nice person and a pleasure to meet. I sure wish I could have had Grady look my car over before I bought it. Good luck the car looks pretty awesome, why do the oil lines run up the driver side on it?

Gawddaym, I love this board. You guys are great! Grady thanks a ton for your offer to take a look at the car. This would be at your convience, of course. Would you like to chat with me prior to going so I can share with you my conversation on the car? If not, that's fine also - should I coordinate with the seller? Thanks again!!!

Bill, if Grady decides to go, I am sure he will be happy to have you join him (but I should speak for him).

Are we talking about Lars' car...."TomBob" ? If so, no need to go check it out. I know the car and the seller...both are top notch. Lars is meticulous and I do believe he under priced the car…at least that is what I told him at the track last weekend after a beer or two

He just built a vintage 2.2 ("Gonzo") and I think most of us would be proud to call it our own.

PS...What's with the name thing......all mine have been "gals"

That is Lars' car. I went up to check out his garage last weekend...even went on a few joy rides. The car in question is very nice. Granted it is not perfect (ie, not a concours car IMO), but is a clean RS replica built off a non-sunroof '73T that's been taken down to bare metal. I don't think you'll have to deal with any rust issues on this car. It has some good upgrades (wheels, engine, and seats come to mind). The engine pulls strongly with a nice howl. It's a fast car and would be a lot of fun as a dual purpose DE/Street car. I think he represented it pretty well in the ad and it's quite a deal at the asking price.

I'll vouch for the seller, too, FWIW. Lars is a good guy.

Bill,

That would be great fun. I thought I would have lunch with some of my long time (and new) Porsche friends in Boulder. Anyone is welcome to join in.

Scott and Lars are discussing so I should know by tomorrow (Wed 10/18/06) when and where. Thursday looks nice but it might be next week. Here is the link to the car.

Scott, here is the link to the Pelican thread with the CA DMV form.
"California Vehicle Search"

Craig, do you want to give the CS some exercise?
Josh, how is your project? Want to do another Boulder tour?

Best,
Grady

Great, thanks Grady. I am flying to NJ tomorrow, returning Friday mid morning, but don't wait on my account.

If it is next week, I'd definitely be interested.

Sounds like a cool car.

Craig, Josh, coloradoporsche,
Thanks for the kind words on Lars and his car. I appreciate your comments. Grady and I had an in depth conversation on the car last night and sent me forth with some questions to ask Lars. Hopefully, everything checks out and we can move forward with a PPI. I'll keep you informed...

Hi all;

I am new to the Porsche hobby here in Colorado (located in Lone Tree) and would also like to be a part of this as well. You can't learn by sitting on the sidelines so could someone let me know when the PPI would be and would try to make it as well.

In addition I might like to drive my 71 S Targa over so that I can get some questions answered at the same time.

Thanks in advance.

I got it in June from a gentleman out in Grand Junction. He had owned it since the mid 1980's and was "restored" in the late 1990's. He wanted to sell it to get a Boxter S - yea I know, I don't get it either. It is a very nice driver but needs some reconditioning and most importantly a 71 S engine transplant.

Sounds very nice - good luck. Eisenbud had a 911S Targa hanging around his shop and getting dusty years ago. I think it still had the "S" MFI motor..

My buddy put a euro-spec 3.2 in his early S and has never looked back.. Starts and runs great. Tons of power.

But it is nice to have an original motor...

I think you and I emailed a while back when you were looking for an early car.

I'm in Lone Tree, too. I know these cars pretty well if you've got any questions. I've had a couple of early S's (72 and 71) and I've got a 71 E now.

Did you buy the red one with the T motor rebuilt by Storz?

Jess
