Cam setting and performance on 3.0l engines
The C3 engine and early SC engines are pretty similar - same intake and exhaust, valve size, cam - with the notable exception of crankcase and crank (Indeed the c3 makes use of the light 2.7 crank). I do not believe that the difference in HP (200hp C3 vs 180hp SC) can come from the lighter crank.
However, C3 and SC do not have the same cam setting : Porsche set a milder cam setting for the sc in an effort to giver better low grunt. So my question is: do you believe that the performance gap between c3 and sc engines come from cam setting ? Is it possible to apply c3 settings to a SC engine ? Mathieu |

The air pump used on SCs was also a drag on performance and don't forget theC3 used a premuffler w/ an elegant internal shape, the SC used a cat Lots of little things eventually add up Can C3 tune be applied to SC absolutly, but I would lok at the '82 and '83 as a better model |
thank you Bill
