Porsche squeaks when turning

HI I have a 1982 porsche 911 sc, most of the time I get this annoying squeaking sound when I turn right, but once I stop and go staright it goes away. Any suggestion on where I should start looking? Thanks

nope, that's a broken swaybar mount, or cv joint bearings

OK, for those of us less knowledgeable about cars, which bearings are we talking about? Wheel bearings? Are those the ones that require repacking every so often?

replace wheel bearings when you can afford to. Packing just prolongs problem. What you hear are the brake pads rubbing the rotors because loose bearings allow rotor to lean.

Interesting, I had always thought the bearings began to howl because they would vibrate at an audible frequency when loose.

Replacing the wheel bearings should be accompanied by replacing the races those bearings will ride on as well, as they are most likely scored.

When going around corners, if it sounds like squeaking brakes, can be bearings can be pistons in calipers not retracting due to swolen brake lines or caliper problems. definitely howling is bearings or me everytime I have to pay for my porsche habit. Where did you get avatar? Hard to get away from your post.

If the squeak follows the steering input directly, check the ball joint. The one on the right usually fails first on high-mileage cars. The right tire is more subject to pot-holes in the road. The joints have a tendency to squeak when rotating with the steering input just prior to pulling through. If this happens, the bottom of the strut and front wheel heads for the back and takes several expensive items along for the ride. Not to mention complete loss of control. This can ruin your entire day.

You could also check your sway bar bushings. Mine start squeeking now and then - although not limited to turns only. Spray a little silicone in there - cheap fix. Can't hurt to check?

Squeeks are no fun to chase! Good luck.

A short thread by most counts, but I printed it out for my file.

It's packed with goodness.
