Sub-Woofer Box Dimensions

Boys,

1) Does anyone have the dimensions of the "over the tunnel" type sub box which sits behind the front seats? This is a one piece unit which is usually carpeted and fits nicely in the rear footwell.

2) Should the box partitioned? Do the subs have an interior partition within the box?

3) Should there ports in the box for proper rebound?

I've built some simple boxes out of particle board and I cant see justifying $300 for something that costs $15 in materials. Any help would be appreciated. The dimensions would be most helpful. Thank you.

I live in Sacramento which also happens to be where Rod Birch...Audio Innovations, a good friend of mine is located...I have his sub box...I'd answer your questions but I think I'd be violating his trust. However let me say the system does work terrific and looks like it was part of the car when new. Suggest you contact him ..he may be willing to give you a few tips... I purchased" Kicker Soloberic's"( spell?) and they call for min. box space (there spec's) for them to work properly.The single speaker I bought fit behind the back seat. I lost some leg room which you will to if you put it there. After a year of use I moved it to the front trunk area pointed into the cabin. It works great at this location and I loose No leg room.

I had a sub-tube and amp from another car.I wasn't using it so I figured it's worth a try. I have a kenwood head with the front and rear speakers "fosgate" in the doors and rear deck (stock fit in the existing holes even the screw holes). Hooked up the amp and the tube in the trunk.With the front rca leads to the amp and the amp to the tube bridged for bass only . I'm very very happy with the sound the head has 40 watts per for the front and rear and with the bass in the trunk it is clean and sounds great!Don't forget to disconnect the stock crossovers/amp in the door panels!

Crutchfield currently is giving a free "truck style wedge" enclosure with purchase of an Infinity perfect 12 subwoofer (priced at $299). This box just fits behind the rear seats of my 911. Add an infinity Beta 100 amp ($239 from Crutchfield) bridged to give the sub 400 watts, and you have bass for blocks for around 500 bucks. I just did this to my 911 and am very pleased. If you want to build a box that fits more neatly than a "one size fits all" unit, my advice is to get an old refrigerator box and use the cardboard to make a template. I used this method to build a box that replaced the rear seats in a friends 911, but you can easily get a one cubic foot box to fit on floor behind the front seats. I may do this in my car eventually, but I will use the Crutchfield "freebie" until then. By the way, I'm not affiliated with Crutchfield, just passing along what I thought was a good deal.

Using the cardboard templete method mentioned above, I built two seperate enclosures that fit behind the seats. They are around 1.7 cubic feet and each will fit a 10". There were a few odd angles and due to a lack of tools I took the cardboard box to a pro and they were built for 80 quid. That is about $120, carpeted and with input. If I was not stationed in the middle of nowhere without my tools I could have easily built them myself. I am about to go to Texas for a month but if anybody is interested I could probably scan the plans for the boxes.

Thank you for the replies. This past weekend I made the trip Home Depot, bought some 5/8 particle board, liquid nails(to seal), and drywall screws. After cutting up some templates, I completed the subwoofer box construction. It is the over the tunnel style and really fits nice. $ 18 in materials, less the carpet. I guess I call World Uph. for some carpet and be done with it. I will post some photos after carpeting and will gladly share dimensions if anyone would like. Thanks again.

Please share it with the rest of us putting up with the stock speakers. Personally I have some large Sansui speakers that I was going to sit in the back deck area (did it on two other 911's and it worked well) but they are limited in their bass.
