Man, that looks like a lot of heavy iron where you least need it on a 911! Is this thing removable?

theres more metal there than on my class IV receiver on my k-3500 duallie(doolie) !

AINT THAT COOL! and you get to disconnect that monster every time you go to track and hook it all back up when you leave track? i think i'll prefer other means of self inflicted torture. would make a damn nice skid plate !

but hey what do i know???? trailering race car haulers, 36ft toy haulers, semis w/40ft boxes, semis w/flat beds filled w/55gallon drums for the mines here, race car trailers , 3-rail bike trailers, 36 ft boat trailers, 26 ft boat trailers, avon inflatable boat trailers, snowmobile trailers,m-151-w/pintle hitched trailers, u-haul trailers when i was younger!

trailering is a damn good way to SQUEEZE THE LIVING SH!! out of your steering wheel and pop a vein! hitting a pothole, debris in road, having wheels go off narrow roadway edge, dirt roads, sand roads, bearing failure, brake failures, ball failures. all real fun stuff in the middle of nowhere. and whats really cool.............WIND/RAIN/SNOW/ICE!!!!! all the fun one needs to have wrapped up behind you!

ask me about the time my 26ft boat dual axle trailer right front tire started on fire with boat on trailer, going 55mph! THAT WAS FUN BEYOND WORDS!

You know, I never needed to tow with my 993 but after reading this I thought, "hey, why not?" It turns out Da'Lan makes a nice receiver for it and so I am buying it.

I already have a friend who tows a two axle box trailer behind his Z06. Now when I take my race bike to the track it'll be in better style.

Thanks guys!

I would "love" to find a bolt in axle with a larger bearing and a hub that I could run 13/14/15" wheels. Suggestions or comments? [img]
Why not look into a minivan axle? The Mercury Villager and Nissan Quest used a simple beam axle on leaf springs. They had 15" wheels and good bearings.

for several years I towed a 400# trailer with a 450# motorcycle thousands of miles to different tracks behind an 85 Toyota MR2 when I was road racing. I never had any problems at all.

The Toyota weighed 2,400 pounds and had a tail heavy weight distribution with smaller brakes than my 911 and only a peaky little 1.6 liter engine.

If I was having to grease my wheel bearings every time I used a vehicle, I think I would learn that there was a problem with the bearing design or specifications. Maybe bigger or better bearings for the loads?

Do you grease the bearings on your car or truck before every drive? Even my 1923 Packard didn't specify to lube the bearings every drive. I think it was every 500 miles or so, but that was very conservative and they didn't take nearly that much maintenance.

Have fun with your zerk fittings.

I think we're getting side tracked from the question of using a 911 as a tow vehicle to poorly designed, poorly maintained or overloaded trailers, none of which have anything to do with the particular tow vehicle being used.

Jerry Kroeger

Then you are misinformed, the model in the picture was available for Carrera 3.2.

Surely you have a copy of PET where it is listed both for US/Canada models and for RoW models until 1989.

I'll keep looking for a bigger axle. Preparation of the trailer is part of preparation of the car for a track event. Doesn't matter what size of trailer.Bearing greased ,play checked, lights checked, tires checked etc. I carry a full set of bearings/seals and have had the need to replace 1 side on a road trip so I'm glad I carry them. If you need the 1" bearings they are easily found at most chain auto parts stores and I even found them at Walmart in the sporting goods section. Fisherman must need them for something!!! (sinkers?) I will still continue to tow with the 911 even though I'm not enthusiastic about the bearings. Thanks to all for advise. Will look at the "bearing buddies" also!!

The SC version was the "00", while the 3.2 must be the "02"

Now that we know what it looks like. Is someone capable of making and selling "GENUINE Porsche" tralier hitches?? This thing looks perfect. It looks like it bolts directly to the bumper shock mounts. (As I said in the other thread, a VERY strong structure)

A small trailer, tires ad tools should weigh ~600-800 lbs., Keeping the tounge weight below the recommended should be easy.
