Tranny oil capacity on a 1987 3.2?

OK, there are a lot of posts on gear oil and hard initial shifting in cold weather which is what I am experiencing. Going to try an oil change to see if it improves. I don't have an owners manual so my simple question is: What is the tranny oil capacity? (I don't even want to ask what kind of oil - sometimes too much information is a bad thing!)

Thanks!

I don't have my manual with me but IIRC it's 3.7 litres. I used Redline 75W90NS and my G50 shifts beautifully.

You'll need 2 quarts. I agree that Mobil 1 is the best for this application. Like Charles said, fill till it runs out of the drain hole. But that is with the car level. If it's jacked up with the nose down it won't hold quite as much, so you'll need to raise both ends to level it. Also, you may or may not know to remove the FILL plug first - they can be difficult and you don't want to drain it until you're sure you can fill it.

BTW, your symptoms are pretty normal for G50s, but if you don't know the age or condition of your tranny oil, it's good to change it anyway.

Bzzzzttttt. Nope, not 2 quarts, like Henri said, you'll need almost 4 for the G50 tranny. Fill until the stuff starts to pour out of the hole at you and then stick the plug in. Mobil 1 synth is the ticket for the G50. Generally the G50 is a bit "stiff" when cold and then better when warm.

My mistake - I was thinking the specs were in pints. But I just checked the owner's manual and it says 3.17 US quarts. Bentley says 3.6 US quarts. Either way you're right - he'll need 4 quarts.

agreed, buy four and you'll have a bit left over.

don't worry about what kind so long as it's Redline or Mobil, there are many different opinions. I got advice from a well respected Pelican/wrench and went with Redline and it's great. Haven't compared to Mobil 1 yet, but maybe I'll give that a try next.

Also, it's not bad to do at all. I read all kinds of stories about how hard it was to reach, loosen etc.

Maybe mine was unusual, but it was every bit as easy as it should be. Car on four stands.

good luck!

umm.. how come each person experience diff amount????
For me, drain and wait for 15" to 20" before fill, max is only 3 quarts. And I wasted some on the ground too.
