Front fender oil cooler fan not working?

Checked my 1987 oil cooler fan after driving home (gauge at 8 o'clock white mark, normal operating temp for my car) and, like about every other electric motor on the car, its not working.

Will try unplugging and hot wiring to see if the motor is working. If it works, what's next on the troubleshoot list? Thermoswitch?

Also, what's the best way to access the fan. Can I gain enough access by just jacking the front right side? If the fan is shot, anyone have a good replacement recommendation. OEM appears to be 8"

Thanks!

That fan won't come on till around 237 degrees. With the needle at 8o'clock you were not even close to 237. The only time I even heard mine come on was this past summer when the car idled for a long time while I was charging the AC.

I beleive you can jumper the switch to force it on for testing. A search will turn up a way to do it I'm sure.

Thanks. I'll test the fan to make sure its functional. Where, approximately, would 237 degress be on the guage - 9 o'clock or higher yet?

Jumping a pin on the fan relay to grd will/should engage the fan, by-passing the thermo sw.
Just repl my fan this summer and can't remember which relay or pin right now. Can't look, cause I'm at work.

Living in the ATL in summer makes having a manual over-ride to operate fan a must have.
Just running one wire to the cockpit will enable you to control the cooling fan at anytime.
More detail later if nobody else jumps in with the correct info.

Somewhere close to the 10:00 pos. If you get your face real close to the gauge using a flashlight look behind the gauge face you will see there are tiny numbers corresponding to the white index marks. I think they are in Celsius though so you will need to convert.

I wanted a more accurate reading so I installed the numeric temp gauge available from Pelican.

i think if you ground pin 85 of the relay, the fan will come on. good test.
