HP Junkies: Protomotive Twin Turbo...

The transformation is about to begin...

Left Bank

Right Bank

Intercooler

Rest of the bits'n'pieces...

Still waiting on some other bits to complete the parts list before she goes in "under the knife"...

The setup will eventually run:-

- Twin TiAL 46mm Wastegates (1.1bar base) dumping to atmo
- Twin 996tt style Billet BOV's routed back to intake for silent operation
- Boost will be limited to 1.1bar for reliability & durability, but the Motronic tune is mapped for 1.4bar max boost.
- A SPEC Stage 3+ clutch will also be used.

Really nice. How much did you have to do inside the engine?
Keep us posted.

Cool Merv! Did you buy that stuff from proto?

You may want to powder coat / ceramic coat or strip and polish the aluminum tubes, they simplay spray em black. Mine scratched all to hell during install.

Droooooooooool.........

Do you have a pic of how it will look when finished?
I have been trying to come up with a configuration that does not obstruct valve adjustments and spark plug access - not an easy thing apparently.

Charles, I've done the engine to full Stage 3 specifications + GT2-EVO CAMs.

David, all the stuff came from Protomotive. Thanks for the tip re: the intake pipes. I may just get them stripped and polished.

Rarly, the kit looks something like this on the motor (just not as pretty):

Errr, sorry, I missed that one?

That is not my engine, depicted above. It's a picture off the Protomotive WEB site.

My engine currently runs a single turbo configuration.

Yeh, that's what the above is... the components for the TT conversion. It won't happen for a little while longer because I'm waiting for a stronger SPEC street clutch and some other bits and pieces

What turbos are you using? Where are the waste gates located?
Are there any adverse affects having the turbos intrude into the engine compartment?

Garrett T3 Super 60's.

The wastgates come off that short pipe running out from underneath the Turbo flange. See the 4 bolt flange?

Adverse effects? I don't know. It's not installed yet. I intend to use some SS heat shields around the turbine housings to keep the heat away from any engine components. Protomotive have done a lot of these conversions and I haven't heard of any adverse effects from talking to other TT owners.

BTW, the turbo's don't sit in the engine compartment. That's 993TT. Proto's is down by the lower valve covers, under the sheet tins like the one in this picture.

Heh I thought I had it bad with the J-pipe for a valve adjust

Boy, looking at that, the flat six was built to be twin turboed, eh? It's very very elegant.

LOL! That's why it's important I have the valves adjusted and heads re-torqued before the system is put in place

Just a bit of info on the SPEC stage 3+ clutch. I have one in my car and while it grabs really well and should hold the power it is not very street friendly more of a race clutch really. You really don't slip it as its on or off. Good luck with your engine build it should be awsome.

Best regards,
Gerry

That's a nice setup.

By the way, why didi you opt for Trim 60 T3's? These have been around since mid 80's. There are better turbocharger around nowadays.

Twin GT25BB's would do wonders for lag.

I run single T3 60 on 2.0L 16v engine, it usually tops out around 250hp and starts boosting around 2500 on that displacement.

I think those are std. issue on Proto kits, they do have a .63 turbine a/r
thou, and I think Proto offers dual BB option on those., cheers, Ant.

So far so good on the Spec Stage 3+ setup. Holding up fine after 4000 miles and some hard beating. But still not much better on the street friendly side probably won't change much with time.

Best regards,
