Just bought a 911, Now some questions.

First off I want to thank everyone on the board, the post here where invaluable in finding the right car. I came home with 305 734 a 67 with a 2.0 Solex motor and Webers 901/05. I have aleady done most of the tune up work and I have found a few things I need more info on.

The car is a 911s nock off S, it has the red shroud and S badges, 4.5 Fuchs, though the engine is a 901/05. At some point in time some one changed the Cam housings to a later style (new style 11 bolt valve covers). How would I go about determining if there are other mods to the engine? S cams, larger displacement etc... I have driven very few older 911 to get a good point of reference for power. It seems to really hit the power band around 4500rpm though it doesn’t have any power issues on the bottom end. I cant really get a good feel for the power anyway after I tuned it up the clutch starts slipping after about 5000rpm.

My second question is what I should do in the way of tires. Is there anything available for the 4.5 rims that is worth it, or am I better of getting some 6" wheels?

The oil pressure at idle is barely above the 1 mark. it makes great pressure off idle. Should I be concerned?

Lastly, the car is a European version imported from Germany in 89. Everything is metric. On the spedo there is a red mark between 50 and 60 KPH. What does this indicate?

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jack

Metric instrumentation, thus the spedo in km’s question. The tires that are on it are 165r15’s new but econo-box tires.

I can only comment on the red mark around 50 kph on the speedo. Most cars I have seen since I started driving 22 years ago have had that mark. I have never been able to figure out why. Maybe because for a long time 50 kph was the slowest limit on the roads and generally the limit in cities. Easier for the driver to keep to the limit I suppose. On newer cars that mark is often omitted nowadays.

I guarantee that you will be able to tell if the engine internals are 911s. I had a '68 very similar to your car which I loved. It was a plain 911 with 911S cams. Once up in the power band, the car just screamed, all the way to redline! The power would just build and build and build......

My old car was on ebay this week and was sold to a lucky new owner. If you have a 911s clone engine....enjoy!
