3.2 or 3.6?????

Sorry the many posts but Pelican was acting screwy to make a long story short. Engine ate a piston...3.2 or 3.6 replacement is the questions....pros and cons please

Don Jackson stated a rebuild price of $15k for the 3.0, I think the 3.2 or 3.6 replacement seems like the better deal?

Don Jackson said the 3.6 would take more effort...

You can delete those other posts, you know.

I don't get it, what's your question? 3.2L rebuild or 3.6L swap?

Yes, the bb was acting up, I deleted at least one of them.

When I did mine you could buy a fresh 3.6 for ~$5k, the newest 3.6 is now 8yrs old. You might be able to get a fresh low milage version but the probability goes down more every day.

3.2 or 3.6? depends on what you want, the 3.6 is a better starting place for a hot rod, but it's certainly not for every one. There is a lot of additional work that needs to be done. But you do get a much more potent package.

have you done a search, there are quite a few threads about this and it's very helpful for someone to have some idea of what the end of the project is like.

I had a 3.2 which I rebuilt and twin plugged. When it broke I installed a 3.6. Big difference in power. Conversion was not that bad. The price for a good 3.2 is about the same as a good 3.6. It seems to be easy to decide this one

I agree the base engine cost isn't going to be that much different, but all the extras/auxiliaries do add up
3 relatively big ones
flywheel
more oil cooling
conversion harness
exhaust

You do get a lot of bang for your buck and I am certainly not sorry I did mine

I agree with you there when I compare a $15k rebuild of 3.0 vs $15k for a 3.6 conversion with AC total price

Jim Patrick of Patrick motorsports was very helpful...to the point he made me think about how much I really like my 911...He was like makre sure you want to sink that much money into the car....

Thanks Chuck I will check out the link

I talked to my mechanic who going to restore my 912e and he said there isn't much difference bettween the 3.0 and 3.2 HP feel....He said if I wanted "WOW" 3.6 was the way to go....

My car is quick but not modern quick, and with cab form I still get vetts, bmws, turboed car wanting to race me

Not like I do the ricer thing but I'd like something that could pull away if need be

BTW what do you guys think my 3.0 will go for with the piston blown?

What did I miss? You spent nearly 3 years locating a car and you've had nothing but trouble? Now this? Man, my questions wouldn't be based on 3.2 or 3.6 at this point unless you can convert those to caliber.

Ha Ha. I wanted to let the mourning period end first, but now that you mention it... ;-)

Glad you still have your sense of humor about it.

Milt

Yeah it sucked to hear the sound the engine made when the piston let go, but it part of owning these cars...

I fully understood that when I got one of these...

No point in being pissed about as I see it, ask this again when I see the bill

is your 3L case saveable?

because from that you can build a host of nice "hot rod" engines, that myself or ralph have experience with (and a bunch of others)....but u can go all the way to a 100mm bore....

new P&C's, some machie work, nice set of cams, and u can amke alot more engine than a stock 3.6L is....
