Smile Finally bought one... (i.e. the show me your yellow 911 thread)

Hey everyone,

Been lurking a while, finally made my first 911 purchase a couple weeks ago. Shes a 77' 911S, with a 3.2 out of an 89' Carrera. Honestly, it looks like a two year old car. The original paint (bahama yellow) looks great, and with the exception of some minor wear marks on the seat bolsters, the interior is perfect. I love this thing! I've been wanting one for years, and now I can't figure out why I waited so long. I sure feel lucky!

I'm sure I'll have some questions for everyone in the near future, for now I'll be a search button whore. Immediate plans are 16x7s in the rear (if not all around), cat bypass / performance muffler, and a steve wong chip.

Thanks again guys...

I love how Porsche created colors to fit certain decades. Very Cool!

All car makers do this.. Something to do with fashion.. You notice it more with Porsche because theres so many old ones still on the road..

Enjoy your new purchase.. Looks good.

I agree with everyone on the color, I love it. Definitely 70s! I never thought I'd own a yellow car, but this is just... different. I'm thinking tan factory sport seats with some yellow plaid inserts might be in the future as well...

I love this thing.

Cool, Chris - one of my favorite colors as well. Check out all the threads on maintenance and update issues for a car of that age and then drive the beejeezus out of it! That grin's NOT going away.
Your neighbors will be so jealous.

Regards,

Congratulations! VERY nice and looks familiar...now let's see where have I seen that color before?

Yours actually photographed fairly well. Sahara Beige (516) generally doesn't photograph accurately. My '76 was just like yours but I backdated the flag mirrors to stainless mirrors, early bumperettes and metal grill. Enjoy. Man, I wish I could do the 3.2 swap....California smog rules....damn.

EDIT: Just noticed you called yours "Bahama Yellow"...hmmm? What does your color code read? Sure looks like Sahara Beige to me. Also called Desert Beige at some point but same color.

Nice ride!

You know they say its easy to buy and difficult to maintain. That is a function of the miles and wear and tear. But I agree with your mods. And as your first 91, make sure you learn- as a driver's control- the car's balance. Remember reverse throttle oversteer.

Have fun.

Honestly, I'm just going by what the seller told me. I'm currently deployed, and just tucked her away in the garage for a few months... so I can't check the color code. Now you've got me curious!

I've tasted a bit of the trailing throttle oversteer, and I can definitely see how it could bite... hard. In addition to a bit more rubber in the rear, I'm taking carefull and slow steps in exploring the handling. I've never wanted to track a car so bad, I wish there was a track closer to home. As far a maintenance, I'm new to 911s, but worked on audis and vws through college... I plan on being quite deliberate with the maintenance.

Oh, and as a sidenote, my "project list" here at our sponsor is quickly approaching two grand. Wow!?!
