Extra oil cooling
Has anyone put a second oil cooler in the driver's side wheel well?
I'm upgrading the old trombone in my SC, I've read that I might want more cooling than a Carrera cooler can handle and I don't want to change the stock look by messing with my valance. Any other ideas?

Check out Elephant Racing's website. Chuck Moreland has a write up on
dual cooler install with detailed pictures. It's a clean install and retains the stock valance look.

BTW, a Carrera cooler with fan should be a lot more efficient than your trombone cooler. Where you live, you might not need dual coolers unless you are running a 3.6 or track the car. I run a hot 2.7 in sunny southern California and my temps are usually around 190 to 210 when outside temps are in the 90's. I have a Carrera cooler with no fan and ER hard finned oil lines.

I'll look at Elephant racing lines, + the Carrera cooler. I hope that will do it for me.

Best of all is a center cooler.
Second to that is a dual setup, but you need to duct all around and under the coolers and use the foglight holes to bring air in. On track days with heat, I still need to remove my headlights. Holes in the back of the headlight buckets send even more air to the coolers. (I have a second set of headlight rings with open grilles to keep large debris out.) ![]() In your shoes, I'd get the Carrera cooler with the fan and work on ducting it very thoroughly, including the headlight bucket.

I too wanted to retain the stock valence look and decided on the dual Carrera cooler setup. I've done several track days and the temps rarely exceed 210. I followed the instructions on the elephant racing web site, but be aware that the mounting on the driver side is a serious PITA that requires quite a bit of fabrication.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'll go with the slight overkill with Carrera cooler, fan and new lines. I've read several threads that involve one upgrade after another, wasting time and money in the process. Then I'll see at the track if I have to get crazy, but I don't think a Carrera cooler will be a throwaway item.
Of course this could be the start of an all-consuming obsession....
