race car vs. heat/defrost
I'd like to remove most of the junk behind the dash including the heat/ac system. This car (911SC) is destined to be a full race car, so what kind of options are there for retaining the ability to defrost the windshield (and maybe a tiny bit of cabin heat? I can simplify the ducting from the HX's to the front dash ducts, but how to pump the air without the heat pump in back or the fan up front? Are there electric accessories that are better suited to a race car? Please help! Thanks!

My best suggestion would be to backdate your heating system to the 74 style. This relies on the engine cooling fan to push hot air through and into the car just like the '69-'74 cars had. Replicate the '74 system with used or new parts and you'll be happy as long as you have good HX's. ![]()

Interesting, thanks Steve. I think I will probably go that route. I have removed all the front business. I'll pipe the heat ducts to the existing defrost ducts and maybe one for cabin heat near the footwells with some sort of on/off valve...
I have B&B HXs, so that's no problem. Was hoping to go to headers with some sort of other electric heat system (if anything decent exists), but this is probably a better way to do it, no?

You'll appreciate it when you race in the rain.

Here's my solution for those cold Pocono mornings while doing DEs in the Spring... A small PC fan attached to each of the defroster tubes and a couple of 150W 12v heaters mounted directly to the holes that send heat to your feet. I would recommend using relays to connect the heaters since they draw up quite a lot of power, I'm reusing the black, round one (see picture). It is just enough to take the chill out of your feet...
