Tachometer question 3.2 Carrera

I'm in the process of replacing my instrument bulbs and when I pulled out the tachometer I noticed a wire dangling inside the dash. There is an empty port at the bottom of the tach on the right side. I'm wondering if this is the source of my bouncing tachometer on downshifts. The dangling wire is hung up on something so I would need to fish it out to gain enough slack, but I don't want to plug the wrong wire in. Should there be any empty ports on the backside of the tach? My instinct says no.

is that possibly the bulb for the "upshift" light?

HI the wiring for the RPM counter is ; pin 1 black (0.5 wire), pin 2 black/violet (0.5 wire), pin 3 not used (only on turbo), pin 4 gray (0.5 wire), pin 5 + red/black (0.5 wire), pin 6 - brown (0.5 wire).

Whatever that wire is, it doesn't fit anyway. Once I put the tach back in I turned on the headlights and tried the high beams. The indicator did not illuminate. I'll look later to see if that is where the wire belongs.

On another note, while I had no problem taking the gauges out of the dash, I am finding it impossible to put them back in with the rubber gaskets flush. Do these usually need to be re-glued or should they be replaced? By the way, the gaskets have a rusty looking powder on them - what is that?

When I reinstalled my speedometer, I found that the gasket tended to curl and bunch up when I pressed the instrument into the hole. I solved the problem by applying a small amount of silicone to the outer side of the gasket, which allowed the instrument to easliy slip into place.
