Get the 6AL with the chip and then get a blaster coil....AND the Pertronix ignition....WORKS GREAT for me...

Some coils are not compatable with the MSD units or vise versa...Check the specs before you buy and ask questions.

It is MEANINGLESS to refer to a 'Blaster' coil ... there are many MSD coils with that moniker!!! None of the MSD oil-filled coils should be mounted with the tower down ... hence the choice of the epoxy-filled MSD High-Vibration Blaster Coil [$65.00
MSD-PN8222] coil for 911 applications.

BTW, the important specs, i.e., primary resistance and turns ratio are practically identical for the MSD High-Vibration PN8222 coil and Bosch CDI coil!

Am I the only one who's bothered by MSD's packaging and hype? Sheesh, how could a "Blaster" not be better than an OEM Bosch coil.

I just couldn't deal with a Blaster coil hitting me in the eyes when I pop the engine lid on my SC. Sachen real halten mit Bosch ...

Brian - you could always remove the decal and/or paint the can. They are nice coils for a decent price...

I am using both the 6al and msd coil with very good results. A lot less than a new cdi from Bosch. You will need to get the Tach adapter as well.

No problems on this end

Take all of these opinions in stride and sift out what is important to you and your car and do additional research. OEM parts are never a bad call, but when add something like a MSD box you need to see if it compatable with that equipment. I told you what I have and it works great......and yes it looks good too...
AND
If you dont buy Dunlap tires because they have the chemical black tirein #5 - (because the worn tire dust kills russian black ants) But the tires work really nice on your car, Well that is your deal. And good on ya.

Sometimes it just comes down to what you want.

Opinions are like a**holes...everyone has one.

So with that in mind. Have a good week shopping for new parts!

Because I know I always like getting new toys..

The OEM black German-made CDI coils are NLA, and the aluminum-can Brazilian-made replacements are problematic, hence my motivation to test an MSD High-Vibration coil for one week, 24/7, under a heat lamp with Bosch CDI and blue Permatune units ... no problems encountered!

Brakleen took the 'Blaster' foil label off nicely ...

OK, I cant resist......I have to be a smart a** for this one.

(laughing while typing)

I dont know about you, But I dont drive around with a heat lamp on my coil. And I would venture to say no one else does either.....
I like to keep the engine bay as cool as possible....

But, I guess you are really looking for durability beyond scope.

Good on ya...

Im sorry for the cheap entertainment.

The heat lamp simulates some heat from the engine compartment. One of the few experiments run by anyone on this bbs - so what he posted is not just an 'opinion.'

The heat lamp experiment is a good idea of course. anyone experiencing the tight confines of a turbo motored car on a 100 degree day just hasn't lived life to the fullest !

i put a NOLOGY coil on mine. it matches my racey red nology plug wires. it makes my bosch spark plugs happy, it makes my bosch dist. cap happy, therefore making my car happy, therefore making me happy!

upgraded only because oem blue bosch coil appeared to be 20 yrs old. cheap warm fuzzy! bolted right on in. two bolts w/blue loctite. cost of coil and a six pack!

even got gnarly nology racing stickers! easily worth 2hp!

I can vouch for that. I bought one of these about two years ago from a very respectful Porsche parts company too find out it wouldn't work. I would be 10 minutes down the road and the engine would die. Called up and was sent a replacement, had to leave home for a year due to military obligations, tried out the new coil sent to me when I got back home and had the same problem. Now I have a very expensive paper weight. I now have an old original coil that works fine. My point, stay far away from these silver Bosch coils.

The blaster coil Warren mentions is black in color...the decals easily removed.

Pertronix has an all flat black epoxy filled coil designed for off road abuse. I have one on my car mounted upside down and it works great. Can't justify spending $200 bucks for a Bosch when it has already let me down once. Pertronix Flame Thrower II is the name and sells for about $50.
