7.35 ring and pinion for a 915 gearbox...

Sounds cool, huh? I was talking with Henry Schmidt at Supertec today, and he suggested it as a nice way to lower all the gear ratios from those of a 7.31.

Anyone have any experience with this?

That mod must make the car quicker than a squirrel's second thought about a nut. (I thought I'd try out something other than the overused "raped ape" analogy...)

That would make all the gears over 11% lower. Might make 1st sort of useless and 5th a bit buzzy, but should defninitely pull harder in each gear. Making the ratios closer together is preferable (but much pricier) to just changing the R&P. You'll still have the same rev drop on upshifts as before...

Once agan, just dropping the cwp ratio is not a solution for most uses.

It does not change the rpm drops which is the usual concern

and

speed in gears for say a 915/44 goes from ~
33, 58, 85, 107, 130
to ~
30, 52, 75, 95, 115

I left the 7:31 in my '73 when I did the 3.2 swap. The car weighs about 2200 lbs, so it's quite a bit quicker than a normal 3.2 powered 911.

The only downside is when autocrossing, I sometimes (rarely, actually) need to grab a bit of third gear. Still, well worth it.

This car is not my daily driver. Between the short gears, stiff suspension, light flywheel and five-point harnesses, it's a bit high strung for much street driving.

I couldn't be happier.

Wow - 2200 pounds with a 3.2? Impressive. Is there any fiberglass on the car, or is just well trimmed?
