How much do Lindsey 11x17's weigh?

Howdy,

How much do Lindsey 11x17's weigh?

I just got a set of 11x17's from Trudesign and they are seriously heavy. I haven't weighed them yet, but I'll post when I will. Shipping weight was 30 lbs.

I remember Jack Olsen weighed them in one thread. I thought 26 lbs. Do a search.

Sorry I can't remember off the top of my head.

I've owned so many sizes of Lindsey wheels that you'd think I could afford a decent scale. Not the case. But these are the numbers from my 'weigh myself, step off the bathroom scale, then weigh myself again holding the wheel' method.

Lindsey 8x17 = 16 pounds
Lindsey 9x17 = 17 pounds
Lindsey 9.5x17 = 18 pounds
Lindsey 10x17 = 19 pounds
Lindsey 11x17 = 20 pounds

They're light because the barrel part that goes around the center is lighter than the comparable section from a whole Fuchs. The only downside to this is that the outer barrel is softer than a Fuchs.

OK. I weighed them using Jacks bathroom scale method. My scale is digital and has a hold feature thingamabob.

24 lbs.

So it appears that the premium you pay for Lindsey's over Trudesign's is somewhat justified.

Does anyone make a modified wheel that uses forged rims?

I was in their shop a month or so ago and they had one I picked up. I asked them how much it weighed and he took it over to their scales and it weighed 17lbs. I'm pretty sure it was a 17x11.

Sweeney todd, when you say forged are you talking about the center section or the barrel halves? The barrels are all spun sheet aluminum which is nice and light.

Cheers

Yep, you bet.
17x7.5 was 16lbs
17x9 was 17lbs
18x10.5 was 19lbs

There are many variable in weight and wheel design. If you run those Lindseys over big brakes you need spacers, so factor that in as well.

If we build Kodiaks to just clear carrera brakes (like a fuch) it would wiegh between 1-1.5 lighter than mine. The reason is they can reduce the depth of the mounting pad (center of the wheel where it meets the hub) significantly. Believe it or not, with my kinises wheels the front 7.5 weighed more than the rear 9.0 for this very reason.

Cheers

17-24 pounds is a pretty big range. It almost makes me want to get a tire dismounted to re-check.

No one should make the argument that the Lindseys are superior to modern lightweight race wheels like Fikses. However good a 16x6 center is, it's still an old piece of alloy that's gone through an unknown number of stress cycles. And the manufacturing methods of today (both in forging and casting) are way ahead of an old forged wheel welded together with a modern barrel.

But if you like the look of Fuchs on a 911, the Lindseys are the way to go, IMO.

Yeah, that's for sure. Does anyone know what those giganto 18's on the new GT3 weigh?
