Major sweetness!

C'mon, we need some engine specs! Twin plugging?

Might want to can the T-bar covers for a more authentic look...

boba 11-18-2006 03:06 PM

Looks Great!!!!
More pics, tell us the details.
Bob

pu911 11-18-2006 04:27 PM

The torsion bar covers will come off don't worry. The motor is a twin plugged 3.5, Ported 3.2 heads, some kind of custom Elgin grind cam, PMO's 50's. Front Coilovers, turbo brakes, car scoots along very nicely. I'll post dyno data once we get motor broke in.
Thanks,
Phil

Zef 11-18-2006 04:55 PM

boba 11-18-2006 05:17 PM

Coilovers rear?
Control arms front?
Gearbox?
Cage details.
RSR reinforcing?
Very sweet!!!

Educate me: Were the original racing RSR's withOUT the Tbar covers? Why?

Smokin' hot ride. Brains AND Looks----nice combo!

adomakin 11-19-2006 06:41 AM

great looking car Phil! those wheels are your spare set?!!! how many 9 & 11 x15 inch fuch's do you want! are they both genuine sets of wheels? is that the finished ride height? what do you plan to do with the car? street or track (or both!)

pu911 11-19-2006 07:26 AM

I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to do with car until half way through build process. I ended up buying a pure track car (another RSR clone) so I decided to keep this one as a street hot rod. So we decided not to go through an do the RSR re- enforcement mods. This a 70 S chassis so I can't run coilovers in rear w/o using an upside mounting kit, we may do that. Really for street duty RSR racing shocks and coilovers are a bit of overkill but hell so is the whole car. Right now car has a stock geared tranny in it and with the torque of the 3.5 I don't think we'll need short gears it. Has a ZF limited slip which it needs in spite of the 345/35 rear tires. I have 3 sets of RSR sized wheels but they are all weld ups. I can't really justify spending 8K on a set of real wheel for a replica car.

"Educate me: Were the original racing RSR's withOUT the Tbar covers? Why?"

RSR were (and still are) purpose built racers. With constant suspension changes, it didn't makes sense to leave the t-bar covers on. That is why most historic pix of RSR don't show any covers.

w21055 11-29-2006 06:10 PM

Smoking car!! I need to start looking for me a project like this!

rusnak 11-29-2006 07:34 PM

Yeah, show up at R Gruppe and go "begun the Clone War has"

pu911 11-29-2006 08:29 PM

Well it pretty amazing I know about quite a few of these RSR clones and they are all different. It amazing to me we are copying a design of a car that was built in 1973.

It's because all the "cool" was used up after that...

pu911 11-30-2006 04:58 AM

I have wanted a car like this for as long a I can remember. I can't wait for spring, which in MT is a long time from now.

bpoteat 11-30-2006 06:05 AM

Man, that is an absolutely beautiful car. If i saw that on the road I'd ride beside you looking at for so long I'd probably freak you out. Nice work.

JBO 11-30-2006 06:13 AM

whoa there, "clone" is not a pejorative term unless the clonee is being passed off as the genuine article.

If someone says "nice clone" then that's a compliment. If someone goes "I'll pay ya $10,000 for that RSR clone" then that is not so nice.

pu911 11-30-2006 01:39 PM

I'll get more pics hopefully in the next couple of weeks. As far as the the motor goes 10.5:1 JE pistons, Elgin cams, Ported and polished heads, Electromotive twin plug crank fired Ignition, 50mm PMO carbs, ARP rod bolts, 964 oil pump, 930 exhaust valves - The usual hot rod stuff. It's great motor, tons of torque, fells like a V8 in a 2000 lb car.
