The "flamethrower" lights I've mentioned...

While I was updating my web site today, Jack Olsen stumbled on this pic that I took yesterday at sunset above PCH. Jack thought it was kinda cool (I like the Pano idea!) so here it is.

These are the flamethrower lights I have posted about earlier. The mains are Bosch H4's, 80/100W. The driving lights are Hella H1 55W with modified factory brackets and rechromed original foglight horn grilles. The foglights are Hella 169's with 55W H3 and NOS amber lenses. Yes, everything is being relayed properly, and yes I plan to get some nice covers for the aux lights to protect them, and protect me from the gub'ment road tax collectors.

Specifically, I thought the photo was good enough to grace the cover of a magazine, so I opened it in Photoshop, and...

Chris,

Very nice pic! I bet those H1 driving lights would really light up the road with some 130 Watt bulbs I got at Wal-Mart (in the sporting goods dept. -- for spot lites) the other day for my Bosch H1's.

Warren - I've only got 55W in them now but if it looks like the electrical system would hold up, who knows? They are very bright even with the 55W H1's!

Chris,

If you have a separate fuse and relay per lamp, I would say it could handle it as long as the relay was rated for 20 Amps and it was fused for 20 or 25 Amps. Those 130 Watt bulbs draw a little less than 10 Amps, and most aftermarket DIN icecube relays are only rated for 20 Amps, so I would NOT recommend running two bulbs from one relay!

Now all you need is a 30" metal halide searchlight mounted to the roof!

Thanks Warren - right now they're running through custom wiring (fairly heavy gauge) using the stock foglight fuse block -- not sure what fuse is in there now -- and the usual Porsche round werhle relay. I have several of the little Hella ice cube relays around so my plan is to put individual relays on each of the H4's and the H1's and then probably use the aforementioned existing wiring & single relay for the 55W H3's.
