Clutch question

I'm coming down to the last few steps on my rebuild and I ave a clutch question for everyone. I have a receipt for a new clutch about 5000 miles before I purchased SC. The pressure plate and throwout bearing are in great shape, however the disc is getting towards the rivets. The clutch was adjusted incorrectly when I got the car and it appears to have burned up the disc.

At any rate, can I get away with just replacing the disc? Anyone done this? I'm getting low on funds at this point, new pistons and cylinders really set me back.

Scott,

Back in 1995 I converter my sporto 1975 to a 915, with the box I got a worn out clutch disk, being short of funds I had the disk relined as the disk was still in good nick, just worn out. The car has had a lot of use since, as an everyday driver, and the clutch is still going strong. All this for around $100 Aus

Hope this helps

Ray

scott, when i went thru the stack of reciepts for my SC, i found that the PO in the past just had the disc changed out. for the most part, i couldnt ever tell. i just had it all apart to fix that damn leak with the flywheel seal so i changed everything over and had the flywheel resurfaced. looking at the old parts, everything look hunkydoory. the car went over 40k miles like that. smart money says you will be ok.

Thanks guys, I had the flywheel surfaced before it went to the balancer with the crank, so I think I'm going to go with the disc. If it lasts, it lasts, if not I'm pretty good at dropping the engine at this point.

If it was a 944, I'd tell you to replace everything. Since it's a 911, and is actually easy to get to the clutch, just go with the disc and save some change.

Yea, no kidding, everything and the throwout fork bearings. That was a long 14 hours I spent on my back changing the clutch in my 87 951. Never, ever, again.
