P201 Wont fit in Engine Stand
Here's a strange one.
I purchased a P201 engine holding fixture from Pelican. It has been written extensively here and elsewhere that the P201 will fit in a "generic" engine stand. However, I purchased a 750-pound capacity stand from the local NAPA and found that the P201 won't fit. Specifically, the outside diameter of the "shaft" on the P201 that goes through the tube at the top of the engine stand is 60mm in diameter. The stand I bought has a 53mm inside diameter. Has anyone else faced this problem? Which "generic" engine stand works with the P201? It would be a big help if somebody would measure the inside diameter of their engine stand and advise me whether it's 60mm and where they bought it (e.g. Harbor Freight, etc.) Thanks! In advance for any reply. The difficult part is that I rented an engine crane in anticipation of transferring the engine from ATV jack to stand, but I have no stand!

Here is a Porsche fixture with a 60mm head size on the HF 1000# 4 wheel stand. Perfect fit with the addition of drilling the hole for the pin larger in the bottom of the HF stand mount.
Love it!!! ![]()

I've heard of this happening, but I've never seen it personally...

Wayne,
There might actually be a silver lining to this for Pelican, in that you might verify that the one you sell through DriveWerks is compatible and offer that as a guaranteed solution! I think that in an effort to make the stands cheaper and lighter the tube has been downsized. I didn't test the 1000 pound model from NAPA because it's a special order piece, and despite the patience of the counter-man, I was not able to verify the dimensions of the tube before I ordered it. And I have not seen the tube diameter published anywhere for any stand. Anyway, I have ordered the Harbor Freight version and will report on the dimensions when it arrives.

My project engine is mounted on a P201 on a Harbor Freight stand so I can confirm that this specific combo works.
Ditto! Although, if I were buying the stand again, I'd go for the U-shaped bottom, and not the "T". It was a PITA to build a support for my oil pan tray. Just a thought.
