Thanksgiving Day run in SoCal?
(this is taken from my last post and put on top so you don't have to read the whole thread to know what is going on.) How 'bout a sticky at this point?
OK, I'm going to take back some initiative here and make a suggestion partly based on what Dave has said on pg5. Here's a proposed route: Starting out at Starbucks, 475 Foothill, 91011 (210 and Foothill), proceding along Foothill at 0730 to ACH, then to Angeles Forest Highway, then to Big Tujunga Canyon Rd down to Sunland where we pull up, chat a little and disperse. Now, if this doesn't go past Newcomb's (I don't know), we could go there, stop for pics and a few minutes of refreshments (I vote no on sit down breakfast in the interest of many folk's time factor on t-Day) and then double back to AFH. Lets's see if I can image this page. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=...6,0.201874&om=1 OK, no image. Just hit the link and see what you think. I'm back in and will be there 0700. I'm up for that. I have heard there's a lot of construction on parts of ACH. But, a recent motorcycle review in the LA Tmes by the gal that does those, featured a run thru the pines. I know Glendora Mtn Road is still closed.
The Santa Monicas have become a bit overworked, eh? |

28 miles
I'm thinking, I should know from all my runs on my Aprilia, that twisties are about 25 miles. Eat breakfast and backdown. That's usually enuf, then home to the family to cook the "bird".

I was thinking about this the other day. We've done this drive in Malibu the last couple of years, but it could be combined with the Rose Bowl group. One way or another, it's gonna happen.

How about Angeles Crest only as far as Angeles Forest Hwy, and then take that north? Far fewer problems on that road than the crest. I take it to/from Lancaster/Rosamond all the time.
A really great longer loop that's about two and a half or three hours, depending on rests, gas, and regroupments, is Angeles Forest Hwy north, quick transition to Lake Elizabeth Road via the 14, then south on Bouquet Canyon with the option to call it a day down to the 210 and home, or continue across Vasquez Canyon, up Sand Canyon, and then up and down over the mighty Little Tujunga, finishing at the 210, then easy freeway home. If you depart from the base in La Canada early--say 8--you can still be home by 11 or noon or so, depending on how far away you live from the 210.

pieturk, that sounds like a possibility for another time. I'd like to explore those roads with someone like you that knows the drill. As long as the big rains stay away, we have time to do this, perhaps mid December. Keep the thought and post something after T-day, OK?

I'm in. I have been dying for a group run. I was hoping to do a Malibu canyon trip but would attend what ever the majority agrees on.
Is it better to have it on Thursday or Friday??

My wife and I will be in Camarillo for T-Day, but we won't be in the P-car. If anyone has a couple of seats open, we would be extremely happy to join you.

Curtis,
Yeah, I forget that a lot of families eat really early; mine doesn't. Fair call! Milt, I'd be up for a longer run later; no problem. It is best before the rains hit, although I have fond memories of one particular run over Little Tujunga--in both directions--in the midst of a really heavy rain storm. We can always do a short up and back version of the route I suggested, north on Angeles Forest Hwy to Mt. Emma Rd., turn around on the giant straight with the big shoulder, and return. Under an hour round trip from start/finish at the base of the Crest in La Canada/at the 210. There shouldn't be any traffic. Anyone who wants to go longer can go longer. UPDATE: Angeles Forest Hwy is the road that cuts roughly up the middle of this map; Mt. Emma Rd. meets AFH right where the "H" is in "Hwy." Zoom out to orient yourself. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&z=11&ll=34.337199,-118.043289&spn=0.326583,0.623474&om=1
