Ooh ooh. Engine noise

As a last hurrah, I went out with my 69 3.0 and took along my buddy w/his 930. Try as I might, I couldn't gain any distance in the twisties. Spent most of my time in the 4000-5500 range for an hour or so.

As we headed home coming out of the mountains, I noticed a rather loud slapping noise from the engine compartment. My engine ran smooth, with no misfires and no oil burnining etc. Just a rather loud chain noise from the right side that seemed to get quieter as the revs went up.

Seeing as I just had the right chain tensioner replaced and my 3.0 has guards versus hydaulic tensioners, I'm thinking the ramps or sprocket is getting in the way of a loose chain.
I backed off the pedal on the way home and the noise subsided a bit. When I fired it up this AM. all was back to normal.

ideas?

Did you change the timing chain with the tensioners? Just a W.A.G., but could the chain be stretched to the point where it is contacting an opposite chain guide?

We opened the right cover this summer when we heard a different noise and discoved the stock tensioner had started to come apart. we did not change out the spocket or chain at that time. There is only 8,000 miles on the rebuild. I plan on converting over to carerra tensioners this winter and think that new chain ramps and updated sprockets might be in order too.
