Atlanta Pelicans - Engine Drop

Hi Guys

I am going to drop my engine and tranny the weekend of Dec. 2/3 to install new tranny. I am going to change out a few gaskets and adjust valves at the same time.

If anybody is interested in learning the process let me know you are welcome to come by.

I will reinstall on Friday the 8th.

Cheers!

I haven't done any serious DIY'ng since moving down here so I'd love to try and swing by. Which day, what time and where are you located?

I would love to attend but I just removed my whole rear bumper to install a new fiberglass one so my car is in pieces right now.

Erik, I'd love to help and learn. Let me check with my social director and see if I can get a hall pass. I'll follow-up.

Thanks!

Had a great day/drop at Elombard's with Velo5338 & Carnutzzz. Much easier task than I had anticipated. Will definitely attempt an engine drop on my own at some point. Here are a few pics. Thanks for the tutorial Erik! keep up posted on your progress this week and let us know if you need help re-installing on Saturday.

Thanks so much all for coming, it was much easier with a TEAM!

Just putting my order together for Pelican...GEEZ its gonna be expensive. Shure wish I could buy that Swepco local.

I will post here on my plans for next weekend. My wife said it was OK so I will probably get everything ready on Friday and then re-install Saturday.

Cant wait to try the new tranny!

Take Care!

Conyers Engine Drop

OK, I just resized the pics in the camera and will try to post now.

After Carnutuzz identified the car "we" would be working on we were ready to get started. I use the term "we" loosely because some of us didn't do much wrenching (OK it was me!).

We were fortunate to have two engineers on the team and the latest lift and brace technology on site - this sucker's never going to fall! The stress tollerances of our equipment was only exceeded by the fear tollerance of our project engineer! (I say, never doubt the power of a well timed prayer)

Prepping for the drop

Fire in the Hole!!!!!!!!

We're clear!

My 2000 bilingual hernia surgery prepared me well for what came next..... the manual engine lift onto the stand!

Let the valve adjustment begin.

Erik, YOU ARE SO MONEY! I'm not sure what you're attemting here.....couldn't find anything in Bentley in the valve adjustment procedure that looks similar. Is this perhaps the "go"/ "no-go" method? Seriously, thanks for hosting. Mike, it was a pleasure meeting you. (Steller exit in the Turbo by the way!!!!!) Hope to see all next Saturday for the install - keep us posted on your progress this week.

And finally, it would not be an official drop without this photo!!!!!

Re: Conyers Engine Drop

Quote:
Oh man- I see a "Caption this photo" thread coming on! I'll start!

"With the driver's side valve covers off, his heart set on a valve adjustment, and his 20 mil feeler gauge nowhere in sight, Erik improvises."

Or

"When adjusting valves, is this "front-side method" in Wayne's book"?

Ha! Thanks again for the drop tutorial. Funniest moments of the day:

1. Erik stepping on air hose and jumping when the hose hissed back.
2. Mthomas doing it 10 minutes later in mid-sentence.
3. Everyone heading into Erik's garage to wash-up. Velo and Erik using copious amount of cleaner to cut the grease. MThomas and I looking at our hands in shame- they looked like we just got the mail, not dropped an engine.

We may not have helped much- but we made-up for it with a lack of knowledge!

Thanks guys!
